Deane Lester’s Moonee Valley Best Bets Posted on June 12, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.3 CROSSHAVEN CROSSHAVEN recorded an impressive debut win at Geelong recently and looks well placed to continue on his winning way when he contests the Two Year Old Handicap (1200m). The son of Smart Missile rode the speed before drawing clear under a light ride to win in good time over 1225 metres at Geelong on May 22. The Hayes/ Dabernig trained gelding has been kept fresh since that performance and the stable appears to have found another ideal race for him. He only needs a positive ride in the early stages to make his own luck and CROSSHAVEN represents one of the better bets of the day. RACE 7 NO.4 SHOT OF IRISH In-form miler SHOT OF IRISH is aiming to secure his third win from his past four outings when he contests the Travis Harrison Cup (1600m). The five year old enjoys bowling along in front in his races and that style saw him record consecutive wins at Sandown and Caulfield before an incredibly brave 2nd behind REYKJAVIK over 1600 metres at Flemington on May 23. He was taken on midrace which left him vulnerable over the concluding stages so his effort in defeat was full of merit. He should get an easy lead in this race and appears well placed to record his 9th career victory. RACE 9 NO.10 BE MY STAR The best value runner at the Valley meeting is BE MY STAR when she runs in the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 84 Handicap (1200m). The four year old was a good winner in Adelaide three starts back before unplaced runs in unsuitable races at her past two runs. She is drawn for a good run, has blinkers reapplied and gets the services of elite rider Jamie Kah. Trainer Will Clarken has to be respected whenever he travels his horses to Melbourne and BE MY STAR looks a great winning chance at generous odds. Market Market
