Deane Lester’s Friday Night Moonee Valley Best Bets Posted on October 21, 2021October 22, 2021 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 2 NO.5 THOUGHT OF THAT THOUGHT OF THAT is a rejuvenated horse for the Maher/ Eustace stable that looks well placed to make it a hat trick of wins when he contests the Open Handicap (2040m). The five year old had basically been in the wilderness since his failure in the 2019 Victoria Derby, however recent wins at Sale and Sandown Hillside prove that he is back to his best. In this race, he is reunited with in-form rider Linda Meech, who partnered the son of So You Think to his biggest win in the 2019 Caulfield Classic (2000m) before, controversially, been sacked from the horse leading into the Derby. He looks the likely leader and should take a power of beating with the only slight concern is the threat of rain as he is far better performed on drier tracks. RACE 3 NO.5 MAHASHAKTI MAHASHAKTI is a progressive mare from the Mitchell Freedman stable that returned to winning form last time and should continue on her winning way when she runs in the Mares Plate (2040m). The five year old has built an impressive record of five wins from 9 race starts including her biggest victory in the Pinker Pinker Plate (2025m) at Cranbourne on October 8. She’s already a multiple winner at The Valley, looks drawn for a cheap run and in-form rider Jordan Childs can steer her home to another victory. RACE 4 NO.1 SO SI BON Evergreen performer SO SI BON should be fitter for two runs back from a spell and appears ready for a peak performance when he tackles the VOBIS Gold Star (1500m). The eight year old battled on well when finishing 4th behind KAHMA LASS in the Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 9. Under the weight scale of this race, he is clearly the best weighted horse in this field and, most significantly, the Hayes brothers have elected to put the blinkers back on SO SI BON which is a genuine sign of intent for this to be his peak run. He was maligned earlier in his career as a non-winner but has now racked up eight wins from 68 starts, over $1.8 million in prizemoney and can add to that tally with a win in this race.
