Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on June 7, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 3 NO.2 TONSOR Sydney visitor TONSOR appears well placed by the Matthew Smith stable when he runs in the Open Handicap (1000m). The five year old has built a fine record of five wins from 9 starts to date and has trialled strongly in preparation for this race. Whilst this is his first start at 1000 metres, the son of Redoutes Choice looks sharp enough for this race and should prove hard to beat. RACE 7 NO.12 DR DRILL Imported galloper DR DRILL has been working up to a win and looks the one to beat when he contests the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1800m). The four year old has only had three starts for the Ciaron Maher/ David Eustace stable and comes off a solid last start second behind the in-form ADMIRALS JOKER over 1800 metres at Flemington on May 25. That looks the right form reference for this race and he is drawn for a comfortable midfield run. He’s a promising middle distance type that appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 8 NO.4 ICONOCLASM ICONOCLASM is a classy horse for this time of year and can bounce back to winning form when he runs in the Open Handicap (1400m).The four year old scored a terrific fresh win in the Super VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m) at Caulfield on April 27 before finishing unplaced behind DESPATCH in the Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 18. He has trialled well since that run, will appreciate dropping back in class and should relish a step up to 1400 metres. Jamie Mott has been riding very well in recent times and gets a strong reward with the mount aboard ICONOCLASM who is ideally suited to record his 9th win from just 18 starts. Market Market
