Deane Lester’s Caulfield Preview Posted on May 12, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 – NO.5 THELBURG THELBURG has been racing in solid form and looks a strong winning chance again when he contests the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m). The John Sadler trained gelding sat wide but still proved far too good for his rivals in winning over 1300 metres at Bendigo on May 5. He drops 3.5kg on that run and, despite a wide draw, should race near the lead and make his own luck. He is building a good record of five wins from 13 starts and appears well placed to improve on that record in this race. RACE 5 – NO.2 KENJORWOOD Reliable gelding KENJORWOOD has struck his right race for this preparation and looks the one to beat when he contests the Open Handicap (1600m). The evergreen performer has been working up to his best form with five runs back from a spell including a solid last start 4th behind RIZIZ in the City Of Adelaide Handicap (1400m) at Morphettville on April 29. He will relish a step up in distance and has won three of his six starts at Caulfield. There looks good speed in this race which suits KENJORWOOD and he appeals as the best bet of the day. SuperPick - Race 5 No. 2 Kenjorwood - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 8 – NO.11 ENIGMAN The Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1200m) looks an open race with a host of chances, however ENIGMAN looks an emerging talent that should run well at each way odds. The Ciaron Maher trained colt showed promise last campaign, winning on debut over 1200 metres at Bairnsdale in October last year before a solid 6th at stakes level behind SOUCHEZ in the Hilton Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on November 5. This is his first run for this campaign but he’s trialled well on two occasions which suggests that he is forward in condition for his return to racing. He gets the benefit of Beau Mertens’ 1.5kg allowance and ENIGMAN looks ready to run a bold first-up race. Bet Now!
