Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on February 25, 2022February 25, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.2 GENERATION GENERATION is building a solid record and appears well placed to continue on his winning way when he tackles the Zeditave Stakes (1200m). The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained colt resumed from a spell with a comprehensive win in the Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 5. He will be improved by that outing and this run is likely to be his final outing before next month’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12. He should make his own luck in the small field to record his 5th win from seven career starts and looks one of the better bets of the day. RACE 3 NO.10 MAHREZ The Caulfield Autumn Classic (1800m) has been a good race for young progressive staying types and the Price/ Kent Junior trained MAHREZ appears to have a good profile for this race. The son of Iffraaj has had two runs back from spell, firstly running an unlucky 3rd over 1400 metres at Pakenham before a solid 6th behind COASTWATCH in the Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 12. He has enjoying a solid grounding for this race and should relish a step up in distance. He is drawn for a midfield run with Mark Zahra in the saddle and MAHREZ represents good each way value. RACE 4 NO.4 ARGENTIA ARGENTIA was on of the precipice of showing that she’s one of nations best fillies last spring before injury curtailed her preparation, however she has returned to racing in stunning form and looks the one to beat again when she runs in the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m). The daughter of Frankel drew an outside barrier and came from last to overpower rivals when recording a first-up win in the Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 12. She will be improved by that outing, should appreciate a step up in distance and appears to have more talent than her rivals. Elite rider Mark Zahra only needs to navigate a clear path from an inside draw and ARGENTIA should do the rest by winning again. Market Market
