Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on September 25, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.2 HOW WOMANTIC HOW WOMANTIC has built a wonderful strike rate in her short career to date and should continue on her winning way when she tackles the Mares Benchmark 90 Handicap (1100m). The four year old has won five of her 6 career outings including a first-up win over 1200 metres at The Valley on September 5. She will be fitter for that run, should appreciate dropping back slightly in distance and produced a career peak second-up last preparation when winning over this track and distance on January 4. She gets the benefit of Lachlan Neindorf’s 2kg, should make her own luck again and represents one of the better bets of the day. RACE 5 NO.7 WINDSTORM The best bet of the day is the West Australian galloper WINDSTORM who runs in the Open Handicap (1400m). The four year old hasn’t managed a win in two Victorian runs, however he was jumping from 1100 metres to 1400 metres when finishing a brave 2nd behind TRAVIMYFRIEND in The Sofitel at Flemington on September 12. He just may have peaked on his run that day but with added fitness, a friendly barrier draw and a strong tempo race, WINDSTORM has plenty in his favour to record his 6th career win from just 9 outings. RACE 9 NO.4 INVERLOCH INVERLOCH should be fitter for one run back from a spell and represents a great each way chance when he runs in the Open Handicap (1700m). The seven year old had trialled well prior to a brave first-up 4th behind TRAVIMYFRIEND in The Sofitel (1400m) at Flemington on September 12. The Busuttin/ Young trained gelding will appreciate stepping up in distance and any rain would only enhance his prospects. He won the Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield earlier in the year and rider Michael Dee has enjoyed success aboard INVERLOCH who is ideally placed to produce another big showing. Market Market
