Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on April 9, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 3 NO.5 ZOUSONIC ZOUSONIC has made rapid development in recent weeks and looks the one to beat when she contests the 3YO Handicap (1400m). The Ellerton/ Zahra trained filly scored a dominant win over 1400 metres at Sandown Hillside on March 18 before a fast finishing 3rd behind RIDDLE ME THAT in the Bendigo Guineas (1400m) on March 28. She has drawn a favourable barrier which may see the daughter of Zoustar race closer to the pace and she appears very well graded in this company. She has formed a good association with rider Jamie Kah and they look well placed to record another win. RACE 7 NO.7 SECRET BLAZE The Easter Cup (2000m) looks an ideal target race for SECRET BLAZE who should now be at peak fitness following two runs back from a short spell. The four year old resumed with a strong 2nd behind the subsequent Australian Cup winner FIFTY STARS in the Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on February 29 before another solid 2nd behind INVERLOCH in the Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m) at Caulfield on March 14. He is hitting this race in good form and fitness which is significant when trying to win a feature race. SECRET BLAZE provides Jamie Kah with another good ride and SECRET BLAZE as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 8 NO.4 HAUNTED The value runner of the day could be HAUNTED when he contests the Elvis Thurgood 40th Anniversary Cup (1400m). The five year old has performed nicely in two runs this campaign and looks ready to step up in distance this time. He was thwarted by a wide draw but still ran very well when finishing 5th behind DIAMOND EFFORT in the Hareeba Stakes (1200m) at Mornington on March 28. He has a fine record at Caulfield with two wins and two placings from four outings, and has been in the placings at five of his six runs over 1400 metres. It’s a solid race with several chances, however HAUNTED makes appeal at each way odds. Market Market
