Deane Lester’s Caufield Best Bets Posted on April 8, 2022April 12, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 3 NO.4 OCEAN’S JEN OCEAN’S JEN is enjoying a solid preparation and looks a great winning chance when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 78 Handicap (1600m). The four year old recorded consecutive wins at Cranbourne and Sandown Lakeside before a second placing at Sandown Hillside and then a last start 6th behind ASYMMETRICAL over 1400 metres at Sandown Hillside on March. She drops 4kg on that run and has been back to the trials and impressed with her recent performance. She is ready to step up to this distance and should prove hard to beat. RACE 6 NO.3 SCISSOR STEP The Three Year Old Handicap (1100m) boasts a field full of quality young sprinters, however SCISSOR STEP is well up to this class and ready to produce a big first-up showing. The son of Toronado finished his last campaign with a good closing 2nd behind the highly talented GENERATION in the Red Anchor Stakes at The Valley on October 23. His two recent trials have been first rate and he’s primed to run a bold race. Whilst he faces solid opposition, SCISSOR STEP will start each way odds and appeals as a good value chance. RACE 7 NO.3 BELLE SAVOIR BELLE SAVOIR is out to maintain her unbeaten record and clearly looks the one to beat when she contests the 3YO Fillies Handicap (1400m). The daughter of Not A Single Doubt resumed from a long spell and produced the best final 400 metres and 200 metres sectional times of the meeting to record a brilliant first-up win over 1300 metres at Sandown Hillside on March 23. She will be fitter for that run, appreciate stepping up slightly in distance, appears drawn for a good run and seems destined for better class races which may culminate with a start in the Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 4. In the short term, this looks an ideal race for BELLE SAVOIR and she represents the best bet of the day. Market Market
