David Shortte’s Friday Greyhound Best Bets

Cannington

Race 1 No.4 SCIENTIST

Keen competitor who has been racing well and three of his last seven starts have produced times of 16.10 and 16.13 twice. Drops from grade 5 company to grade 6 here and has enough early burn to roll in to a prominent position. From there if he runs to that 16.10 range the show is over. Just under $4 looks a spoil.

Race 6 No.3 HINTO (Each Way)

Broke through for a well deserved win last week in a slick 29.74 seconds. Prior to that had been placing week after week against our best sprinters for months. The victory will no doubt be good for his confidence and the small field certainly plays to his strengths. Not brilliant early but makes up for it late with a barnstorming finish. Momentum and Obstropalous are both very talented and loom as dangers but in a pay 1 & 2 race I think Hinto is a strong hope of rattling home in to the top 2 slot.

Race 9 No.5 VIRTUOUS LAD

Former New South Wales chaser who has been excellent since arriving in WA and has won 3 of his last 4 starts here over 380 metres in the times of 21.93, 21.97 and 21.77. The early splits in those wins have all been sub 6.50 and if he can reproduce that here gets a chance to run to the top and clear out. Completely luckless last week when unplaced and can bounce back here.

Race 10 No.7 WEST ON NUGGET

Placed behind the very talented Argyle Queen here over this trip two starts ago when beaten a tick over 2 lengths in 35.15 seconds. Was a winner in 35.04 only 4 starts ago and looks to have found the perfect assignment here. Should land handy and in a small field his strength should see him as the one to beat.
