Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview Posted on August 20, 2021August 23, 2021 | Posted by Darren Clayton RACE 1 MACH DA VINCI (10) was put into the contest early last start and fought them all off which followed a deficit of just a neck to Crunch Time. This looks set to generate the right tempo for him to arrive for the prize. TOMMY LINCOLN (7) has been in super form, and this is a drop in grade from his effort last week behind Blacksadance. Despite the wide gate he looms large. MISTERFREEZE (9) will be fitter again after his second-up victory here last week and will be working home over the concluding stages. MIDNIGHT MAN (5) looks the early speed and last week led until the last stride. He will not be too far away. TIPS: 10-7-9-5 SUGGESTED BET: MACH DA VINCI (10) to win RACE 2 The more I look at this race, the more it looks to profile for COLT THIRTY ONE (9) to get his opportunity for a breakthrough. It will be a hard run mile and finding position just behind the action will give him every chance to swoop. CRUNCH TIME (3) was big in defeat last week when parked outside Blacksadance in a 1.51.8 mile. He might just have to grind it out again with speed to his inside. MAYWYNS BEST (2) is that speed and when drawn to, likes to roll them in front. Probably not up to holding them off, he will certainly set the target. OUR UNCLE SAM (8) was back to winning form last week and while the gate is sticky, an early move away from the pegs gives him place claims. TIPS: 9-3-2-8 SUGGESTED BET: COLT THIRTY ONE (9) to win RACE 3 WE SALUTE YOU (8) can still be seen in the Albion Park straight looking for open space after he was in gridlock here last week and never had a shot at them. He maps for the leaders back here and can take the snipers shot. THE DEMOCRAT (1) took them all the way from gate 4 last start in a career best mile. With an improved gate he will be gripping on here. ROYAL AURORA (3) steps up to metro grade after some tidy mid-week performances. Only 2.5m from the smart Bombadier Jujon 2 starts back, he can settle handy enough to feature. AT WEST POINT (5) will be out and attacking as he likes to roll up front. His chances rest on limiting the early burn. TIPS: 8-1-3-5 SUGGESTED BET: WE SALUTE YOU (8) to win RACE 4 ROCK FISHERMAN (10) has been flying in recent weeks and really is ready to strike. Last start it was only the star 3YO Captain Crusader that was able to get past him. With the right trip he can reel them in. GOVERNOR JUJON (6) is the big query. An undisputed topliner in the making he has a FFA rating but drops into this qualifier. With this his first outing since December, is he fit enough to strike first up? FIRST STRING (11) is at his best when near the front so a mid-race move could be a play here. Too strong last start in scoring when sitting parked, he is place hope. KING TRITON (9) is knocking on the door for a win and has good closing power. Only beaten 2.5m from inside the second line last start, he will be warming up in the stretch. TIPS: 10-6-11-9 SUGGESTED BET: ROCK FISHERMAN (10) win/place RACE 5 LIFE LAVROS (1) was a race day scratching last week when he looked a good thing. He lines up here where he profiles to get the perfect trip on the back of the speed and can make it 4 wins from his past 5. FRANCO HAMPTON (2) loves to roll in front and from this alley lands his ideal pattern. He fought them off last start from gate 6 when running a 1.53.1 mile and will be the bunny again. BOMBADIER JUJON (4) won a mid-week event 2 starts back with 2.5m to spare when leading throughout. Chasing for 2nd last start when Watch Pulp Fiction pinched it, he is a place chance. SQUIRE (8) chased hard for 2nd last start behind Franco Hampton and draws to follow the pegs here. That looks the place to be in this race and the fence line exotics appeal as a betting proposition. TIPS: 1-2-4-8 SUGGESTED BET: Flexi Trifecta 1-2 / 1-2-4-8 RACE 6 BLISSFULL LILLY (9) is a newcomer to Queensland, joining the Shawn Grimsey barn who does a super job with small numbers. Fresh since her last outing in NSW back in early July, she strikes the right mares contest to strike. AJAY BREEZY ROSE (8) has been in great form on her Queensland campaign and was strong to the line last start when 3.8m from the winner after easing from gate 7. Just needs some luck from this gate. FEELS LIKA WINNER (4) was only 1m from the winner Voodoo Lou last start after doing plenty of work in the run. This is well within reach. KATAMACH (6) is best suited when able to dictate and likely will not have that benefit here. Taking them all the way last start, the return to mares only grade does help. TIPS: 9-8-4-6 SUGGESTED BET: BLISSFULL LILLY (9) to win RACE 7 SAM IS PERFECTION (7) had to overcome the inside second line last start and was making good ground in the stretch behind Vinny Chase. The gate is not ideal, but there looks a genuine tempo which will give him the closing shot. VINNY CHASE (5) meets nearly the same opponents he defeated here last week when claiming a 2m victory. The tempo looks strong once again and he will be looming in the stretch. CASINO TOMMY (6) was asked to do the heavy lifting against these opponents last week but could not finish it off. At career start 200, can he lift for the win? MY MASTERCRAFTSMAN (2) held on for 3rd to Subtle Delight last start. He can settle close from this gate and be thereabouts. TIPS: 7-5-6-2 SUGGESTED BET: SAM IS PERFECTION (7) to win RACE 8 WAHS FIRE BUG (6) delivered as the best bet last week, although you would not want the race over again as the map went out the window early. Really savaging the line to claim the win, she faces a tougher gate, but this race should generate some good heat for her to arrive. A RAINBOW DELIGHT (3) has been slammed with the ODM embargo of late, so a return to a good alley looks ideal. Close-up here on Tuesday, she gets her chance to dictate. TOTAL DIVA (4) was sectionally strong last week after landing outside the front line. That followed a nice win 2 starts back and she looms large. LISA LINCOLN (8) will have early options as the lone second line runner as to where they position. Too far back in transit last start at Redcliffe, she can be sharper here. TIPS: 6-3-4-8 SUGGESTED BET: WAHS FIRE BUG (6) to win RACE 9 DOUG (2) is always a risk as his manners can let him down, yet last start he was much better behind the tapes and trotted much cleaner. Those two assets made all the difference as he scored an emphatic victory. He just needs to repeat to win this. GODOFTHUNDER (3) has been freshened since his last outing in the G2 Trotters Cup. A great beginner, the two horses off the front line are outside draw, so he might just be able to scoot through from the 10m tape and that would bring him right into contention. ALADDIN SANE (1) was runner-up to Doug last start after doing some work in the run. From the front tape, if he steps, he can feature. MAJESTIC SIMON (11) has the 50m impost but is clearly the class runner. Back up to the longer trip will be in his favour for this battle. TIPS: 2-3-1-11 SUGGESTED BET: DOUG (2) to win Market Market About Darren Clayton Darren provides Racing Queensland with his expert form analysis, tips and speedmaps for all TAB races in Queensland.
