Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview

RACE 1

KEAYANG MARVEN (10) sat at the back of the pack here on Tuesday, running home in some slick closing splits. In a race that should generate heat, he can power over the top of them. ROCKNROLL CLASSIC (2) should appreciate the return to the front line. Of concern is the fact he has been rundown the past 4 times he has led. WE SALUTE YOU (1) is effective when saved for a closing shot on the inside and the pattern looks firmly in his favour. MAJOR FERNCO (4) hit the line nicely last start for 3rd behind the flying Rock Fisherman. The 2138m might just ask the question he cannot answer.

SELECTIONS: 10-2-1-4

SUGGESTED BET: KEAYANG MARVEN (10) to win

RACE 2

IT AINT THE MONEY (2) has been doing a super job from tough gates with his sectional performances backing up the visual. Bereft of luck last start, he can find the front here and has won the only two times he has ever led on this track. KEY LARGO (6) was caught napping last start when in front as eventual winner Double Or Nothing made a lightning mid-race attack. Only a head away, he is racing well enough. JONAH JONES (7) finished 2m from the winner last start over the middle-distance after working early. The gate stings but he is never too far from the action. THE SHADY ONE (3) has been poking up in recent starts but never really looked a winning chance. He will settle handy again.

SELECTIONS:
2-6-7-3

SUGGESTED BET: IT AINT THE MONEY (2) to win

RACE 3

GOTTAHAVEAHOBBIE (9) looms as an ominous threat and comes into the battle with successive Redcliffe wins. The most recent of those was a 17m space job punched out with a dazzling last quarter. The map has him set to strike. BEAST MODE (1) will need to really burrow through from this gate early. Beaten 6m last start after working hard in the run, he has since trialled in smart fashion. Does he need to lead to win? A question that will be answered here. THE IDEAL DANCER (10) once again looked to have his chance and was ready to strike but could not land the winning blow. His winless run on this track with his recent chances is starting to be a concern. IN CHEVRON WE TRUST (8) was in the trail last week from this gate but could not gun down Despondent in the stretch. Probably needs to be leaders back to be a winning chance.

SELECTIONS: 9-1-10-8

SUGGESTED BET: GOTTAHAVEAHOBBIE (9) to win

RACE 4

SPEECH IS SILVER (6) landed the closing blow over the mile last start which followed a second-up defeat by an eyelash. With the added fitness, he will relish the 2138m where his record is exemplary and the tempo looks right for him to scorch the stretch. WILL THE WIZARD (7) landed a threepeat of victories last start, all at the mile and all in sub-1.52. The distance is not the concern but the wide gate and where he maps certainly is. COLT THIRTY ONE (8) will have the 2nd line options and will strip fitter from his gritty 3rd to Turn It Up last week where he was fresh. CLINTAL DO (1) might be too fresh with no public trial to report since his last appearance back on July 10. The cosy trip certainly gives him the chance to land in the minors.

SELECTIONS: 6-7-8-1

SUGGESTED BET: SPEECH IS SILVER (6) to win

RACE 5

KIWIS ARE FLYING (1) is exactly that, the Narissa McMullen trained pacer is absolutely airborne with his only defeat in 7 Albion Park starts when 2nd to the boom Deus Ex where he was resuming from 12 months off. The gate makes this look a procession. ANOTHER STATEMENT (2) is going well enough that if the 1 was not in the race, he would likely be the favourite. Alas, he starts outside him but if he can generate some heat off the arm, might just find the space to drop into the trail. HERBS HERO (5) has hit the board in all 4 starts this campaign including a smart second-up win. Position will be key.
YOUNG CONQUEROR (8)
had no early speed last week when starting favourite and then could not reel them in. That question on his early hustle might see him shuffled but the pegs will be the place to be in this.

SELECTIONS: 1-2-5-8

SUGGESTED BET: Flexi Trifecta 1 / 2-5-8 / 2-5-8-9

RACE 6

LIFEOFBRIAN (9) has been running some handy races but just seems to find conditions to conspire against him. Gate 7 was the impediment last start and the run prior when sitting parked. This assignment looks ideal. CONGO LINE (5) was a smart winner here 3 starts back when overcoming gate 7 for the prize. He has been kept fresh since his last outing. BETTATHANIDEAL (3) will be third-up from a break and maps for a handy run. Hit the line in nice style behind the in-form Speak With Sam last start. THE HUMMER (1) was able to cling on for 3rd last start to Despondent after working hard in the run. He lands all the options off the ace.

SELECTIONS:
9-5-3-1

SUGGESTED BET: LIFEOFBRIAN (9) to win

RACE 7

LILAC FLASH (1) has now had 3 runs back from a spell and has been an asterisk on the sectional report in each of those 3. Gate 7 was his nemesis last start but with a cosy trip looking available, this looks right in his wheelhouse. REPLACED EYE (2) gets the drop back to the 2nd division and comes up with the gate to grab his opportunity. A shade below what may have been expected of him after arriving from Sydney, he can atone. KASH US BACK (3) was left lamenting as Mach Da Vinci ran a slick closing panel last week making it impossible for the chasers. Tucking in closer to the action will be a big help. VIRGIL (7) took control from gate 6 here last week and once in front led throughout. In great touch in recent weeks, the gate does look tough this time.

SELECTIONS:
1-2-3-7

SUGGESTED BET: LILAC FLASH (1) to win

RACE 8

JEWEL OF PEAK (6) has drawn wide but I’m going with the map that she can shanghai across to lead and make them chase. Game when holding on for 2nd after setting the speed 2 runs back, her chances will certainly rest on the tempo. OUR ANTONIO ROSE (7) has started from the 2nd line in both Qld starts and is afforded no favours again from this gate. 5m from Vouchers last week, the gate impediment might just be too large. NINA SIMONE (3) was a tidy winner at the mile 2 starts back defeating a subsequent winner. Tackling her own sex is a plus. MOLLYS SECRET (9) has placed at her past 2 in this grade finishing 4m from last week’s winner Vouchers. Position will be key.

SELECTIONS:
6-7-3-9

SUGGESTED BET: JEWEL OF PEAK (6) each-way

RACE 9

LEOS BEST (2) can be a big improver from this gate in this grade. He does his best work in front and has had conditions to lead just 3 times in his past 40 starts, winning all 3. SUBTLE DELIGHT (5) will be fresh up taking his first outing in a month for this battle. Only 8m in arrears of Turn It Up 2 starts back when tackling open company, the small field will be in his favour. SQUIRE (7) has been running some handy races in stronger company, the latest when chasing Mach Da Vinci. OUR MAJOR DAY (3) lines up for his first start since July 13 without a public trial. His best would be enough to win this race, but he may be looking for a few runs under the girth.

SELECTIONS: 2-5-7-3

SUGGESTED BET: LEOS BEST (2) to win

RACE 10

SIR FAHRENHEIT (5) has won his past 2, both those wins over 13 furlongs from the standing start. Both wins have been strong when overpowering them and the smaller field should see him close enough to strike. MORE SHADES OF GOLD (7) ended up with an easy lead last start once his main dangers made errors and from the front, he kept them chasing to claim the prize. A seven-time winner from the mobile, he will relish these conditions. RED CASTLETON (6) was a real eye-catcher last start after making an early error before chasing hard and still beating a couple home. Normally quick from the mobile. FATHER CHRISTMAS (1) has worked into some form that includes a win 2 starts back followed with a 2nd when beaten a half-head last start.

SELECTIONS:
5-7-6-1

SUGGESTED BET: SIR FAHRENHEIT (5) to win
