Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on January 29, 2026January 29, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 We race at Rosehill in Sydney on Saturday on a good rated surface under sunny skies (maximum in the low 30’s). The meeting gets underway with a 1500m Highway where the lightly raced (18) REGAL PROBLEM stifles the early market. Well supported here a fortnight back when resuming she ran into traffic a couple of times in the straight before hitting the line well. Fitter, well drawn, no weight & with an additional 100m plus a dry surface she looks very hard to beat. The consistent pair (12) HANNA’S BRIDGE & (13) HOLY HELL can figure in the placings. Numbers: 18 – 12 – 13 – 14 Suggested Bet: REGAL PROBLEM TO WIN. RACE 2 No big numbers going around in this week’s Midway. Not keen on the barrier handed out to (2) ALABAMA STATE however it’s comforting to see J. Mac down to ride, if anyone is going to get him in or gain cover it’s that man. Horse has the best recent form with a couple of recent close-up efforts in stronger company. (13) ATTRACTIVENESS has plenty of upside, perhaps hit the front too son last start, was only nailed right on the line. (3) CRYPTONIC & (8) CLOSE ENCOUNTER in the mix also. Numbers: 2 – 13 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: ALABAMA STATE TO WIN (small bet). RACE 3 The Canonbury Stakes for the 2yo males reminds us the run to the Golden Slipper starts right here & will improve quality wise each week. (1) INCOGNITO won the Breeders back in October, we’ve only had two subsequent starters out of that race & both have won. He’s going very well at the trials & has the raced brigade covered. (4) EVICTION NOTICE also comes out of the Breeders running second last, well supported he ran favourite however led & faded, also trialling well surely improves. Two at the bottom (7) CONFEDERATION & (8) HIDRIX cost plenty (particularly the latter), both have trialled well & should be ready to go! Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 Really keen to see how the debutante (9) MISS SCANDAL measure up here in the Widden. Scratched last week due to a wide draw she’s fared better today & looked to have plenty in the tank at her latest trial clocking in a close third. I’d be very disappointed should she not run well. (2) HARDANGER ran into Warwoven on debut, that horse was very short odds to win the Magic Millions until unable to take his place, must respect. (3) MISS CHANEL can figure from the good draw, nothing wrong with her debut. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: MISS SCANDAL TO WIN. RACE 5 Very tough race. No doubt (10) SOVEREIGN HILL impressed when winning first up at Canterbury doing it both ends of the race. He’s gone up shorts odds which just concerns me a little as he didn’t beat much in that race & could get posted from an awkward gate today, not knocking the horse, I am knocking the price. I’ll lean to (7) OFF THE PRESS who is a model of consistency, drawn worse than the top tip however ridden cold can come with a burst late. (2) YOSHINOBU closed off well fresh on the Gold Coast, better draw today sees him a lot closer in the run. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: OFF THE PRESS EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 6 (7) CROSS TASMAN is absolutely flying this prep winning all 3 starts, the latest couple by a cumulative 5.9 lengths in commanding fashion. He rises in grade today however in the form he’s in plus a slight weight drop it’s hard to see him not making it 4 straight. (8) PIPPIE BEACH is better suited to a wet track however she’s more than capable on a dry deck also, right at her peak now she’s in with a chance. (10) AMPLIFY is a lightly raced mare with a splash of class, impressive first up may want further than the additional 100m now however I wouldn’t overlook. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet: CROSS TASMAN TO WIN. RACE 7 ROSELYN’S STAR has gone up short odds here, unders in my opinion. (3) EYE OF THE FIRE has returned in terrific order this prep winning first up before good on the heavy last time out beating all bar a smart type. Scores a little weight relief & drawn a decent gate should land a tidy run. (4) ROSELYN’S STAR was good first up at the Gold Coast, he ran favourite, everybody wanted to tip him to you, unfortunately for those supporters the leader had too big a break, just to the eye he was being held late though. (9) SIXTIES a market watch. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Keen on the chances of the Queensland visitor (1) ZARASTRO who we can back on an each-way basis. He’s very quick & can lead these off a favourable draw, impressive recent Deagon trial winner he’ll give his rivals plenty to run down. Big watch on the resuming (6) ENRICHED who hasn’t raced for 42 weeks, trialling well & has stronger form lines than any other runner in the race, fitness? (5) DISNECK in the mix whilst (7) FIRE STAR backs up from last week when finding the 1400m too far after looming to win half-way down the straight. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet: ZARASTRO EACH-WAY. RACE 9 (7) WILLIE OPPA has really hit his straps this prep winning 2 of his past 3 starts with valid excuses at the defeat. Impressive last start the step up to 2000m looks ideal now, the drop in weight offsets the rise in class & J. Mac sticks. (2) CORMAC T was well out of the money first up however keep in mind he can improve sharply second-up as his record suggests. (9) PLACID PEARL can improve coming back in distance, 2400m last start was clearly too far. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet: WILLIE OPPA TO WIN. RACE 10 Plenty of winning form amongst the starters in what is a very competitive looking closing race. (8) AGARWOOD joins the O’Shea/Charlton yard & is a very interesting runner having won his first two starts comfortably before finishing down the track his only other couple however they were in Group 2 company. Latest trial saw him hit the line well, betting? (13) NEPO BABY is very lightly raced & yet to be beaten, trialled well & can measure up from the decent draw. No knock (4) STORMLAND bar the wide draw. Winning chances do not end there! Numbers: 8 – 13 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
