Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on July 18, 2024July 18, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Rosehill on Saturday takes place on an improving surface with fine weather forecast right up to & including the weekend. Confident MAWJOOD has the race experienced brigade covered however there’s a couple of beautifully bred very expensive debutantes down the bottom being MERGEILA (750K) & SENSATIONAL WIND (1.1 million) both out of leading stables who have trialled well enough to figure. I’ll lean to MAWJOOD however I’m very wary… Numbers: 2 – 8 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Usual open looking Highway, $5 the field in early markets was no surprise. Poor draw for LISZTOMANIA however he will come in a fair way after scratchings as we have a field limit of 14. Super consistent at this level he’s just busting to win & gets his chance today. ZARIZATYCOON & PALAZZO PRINCE are lightly raced & showing good signs, same can be said for KING LARRY, I’d include all. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 J.Mac jumps aboard SILVANITO in this week’s Midway & that might just be what this Newcastle trained galloper needs to get him over the line as he’s placed second at his past 2 starts in stronger company. Both were here over 1400m, dropping back to 1300m likely not ideal however I’ll take the punt he can get the job done. NAVY BLOOD is very close, last couple have been solid efforts, I’d be having a saver. DIAMOND MODEL in the mix as well. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 15 Suggested Bet: BACKING TOP TWO SELECTIONS TO WIN. RACE 4 Chris Waller holds a strong hand in this race (nothing new) with a couple of major chances being PURE ALPHA & CARRAZANA. Going to lean to PURE ALPHA however I wouldn’t be taking a price any shorter than $3.00 as he does take a fair leap in the weights up to 61kg which has to have an impact. On the positive side he’s very consistent & should find a good spot from the gate. Betting moves will be all important around CARRAZANA who resumes at 1500m, never an easy task however Chris Waller’s trained a few more winners than I have. HEADLEY GRANGE is going along well & does have a big finish. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Open race. JEWELLERY gets the nod as she’s a model of consistency & comes up with a good alley for Zac Lloyd. She’ll handle any type of going & should find this easier than her latest close up placing down south. WILD BOTANICA has a lot of positives with only the one obvious negative being her gate, should she offset that early on lookout! JUNQUIERA is suited by the drier surface (also wide gate) whilst MISS JENIFER should be included as she’s been racing very consistently. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Two very much in-form horses do battle here being CONTEMPORARY & IN FLIGHT who are hard to split. Although the latter has been going around in easier races than her main rival, I have to lean her way with the 6.5kg weight differential in her favour. CONTEMPORARY will also likely give away a start, it won’t be an easy task to run IN FLIGHT down with the light weight. BIG watch on the ex-French mare SIVKA BURKA who has very good form back home & has trialled well. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Very keen on the chances of AGE OF SAIL in this race who has form over this trip overseas, today he strikes it for the first time locally. Good effort at Randwick over 2000m last start going very wide in the straight & clearly doing his best work late. The drier track will only enhance his winning chances. STRATHAY beat him home last start, can run well again however I do expect the tables to be turned. KUREDER a chance on his latest run which was a tougher race, does rise plenty in the weights though. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: AGE OF SAIL TO WIN. RACE 8 No reason TAMERLANE can’t deliver again as he’s fully fit, hit form & back to drier ground which is a huge plus, his latest win on heavy which isn’t really his go suggests he’s in the right frame of mind to go back-to-back. CHARTERHOUSE & BLAZE A TRAIL recently both raced in Queensland & have definite claims on those efforts. KING OF THE CASTLE was held up when running third to TAMERLANE last start, some say he should have won, for mine he was being safely held late. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: TAMERLANE TO WIN. RACE 9 Even with the big weight it’s tough to go past CHORLTON LANE who will relish getting back on drier ground this afternoon. He clearly doesn’t appreciate anything bar good conditions & J. Mac should be able to slot him into an ideal spot albeit off pace from the start. FELIX MAJESTIC a definite ‘include’, fresh form doesn’t read all that well on paper however he’s won a trial by 7L & this trip may be quite suitable first up. Hard to knock ELSON BOY however I feel he’s better in wetter conditions. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: CHORLTON LANE EACH-WAY (good track). RACE 10 The inside draw for the resuming WILLAIDOW looks suitable this afternoon & note he is already a first up winner. trialled well & the country’s leading jockey being booked to ride is a strong pointer this one is ready to fire fresh. Drawn next door ABLE WILLIE looks the main danger, doubt he’ll be anywhere near WILLAIDOW early however likely to be close late. UNION ARMY & SMASHING EAGLE are always chances in these types of races. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 15 – 14 Suggested Bet: WILLAIDOW TO WIN. Market Market
