Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on December 28, 2023December 28, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Interesting race to kick off the afternoon where nos.1, 2 & 8 come through the Magic millions race at Ballarat, can’t say I’m a wrap for that race. Yes, PARKOUR closed off well however I’m not convinced the horses he ran past were up to much, unfortunately he doesn’t face much here either & I’m going to leave him on top however wouldn’t be taking under $3.50. COMMANDING ARTIST likely the best of the newcomers through the trials, inside gate a big help. PIERANT stays home after also accepting at Doomben, trials ok. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 2 Wide draw for the well fancied GALLANT STAR who will need things to go right from out there. Happy to have something DISCREET MISS at the good odds available, she was only one length of the well performed Tribeca Star this grade at Rosehill two back before winning her latest at Nowra. Back down in the weights draws well. KING RUPERT sets up nicely, form is definitely up to this, SIR MING is another who will need his share of luck from the wide alley. Numbers: 12 – 14 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet: DISCREET MISS EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 3 The lightly raced RUNWITHTHETIDE looks well placed off his last start 3rd here over this 1400m trip. He raced up on a good speed & gave plenty down the straight, gate one, no weight he can go a couple better this time around. POSEIDON RULER should be right at his peak fourth run back, came with the winner last start who is very promising, couldn’t quite match however wasn’t far away. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 13 – 11 Suggested Bet: RUNWITHTHETIDE TO WIN RACE 4 Going with the well-drawn FLEETWOOD in what looks a very competitive race. Resumed with a second, followed that up with an all the way win here before out of the placings (3.88L) in the Magic Millions race at Wyong. Should get the gun run this afternoon. DAZZLE LEGEND has bypassed Doomben to run here, improving & certainly in the right hands. MISS EMMA bolted in last start; she can run a race with a touch of luck from the wide gate. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: FLEETWOOD EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 5 Happy to back DREAMFLIGHT on an each-way basis here. Big odds last start when beating all bar the winner Kapakiri who is quite promising. He did plenty of the bullocking work on that occasion up on what was a good speed, with 4kg less on his back he should prove a tougher nut to crack. NAVAL COLLEGE may need one more, he won’t be far away though, market the best guide perhaps? TOURISTIC will appreciate the drier track & drop in weight. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet: DREAMFLIGHT EACH-WAY RACE 6 Very keen on the third-up LOUISVILLE. Strong winner fresh his past couple have been over the 1400m trips & whilst running home well he’s clearly busting to get out to the mile which is the case today. MIRACLE SPRIN ran a nice race first up & is fresh enough to put in another good performance, short of his best however he’s one that can really find the line. STONECOAT has a very good fresh record, must include. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: LOUISVILLE TO WIN RACE 7 GREBENI has won 2 of his 4 starts this prep & can add to that tally in a race where he appears very well placed. He does rise in weight today however this is certainly no harder & he’s drawn to once again land the right trip at a distance he excels over. CHARTERHOUSE the danger should there be one, appreciated the solid speed landing the Cranbourne Cup two back before giving away too much start the latest, give in the ground would be a bonus. EXCELLENT PROPOSAL zipped home last start, may want further? Wouldn’t be overlooking either way. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: GREBENI TO WIN (small bet) RACE 8 Happy to be with the very consistent DOLLAR MAGIC who has finished in the placings her last 6 starts, she’s run 2nd at her last five suggesting some to suggest she’s a non-winner. Not sure that’s the case however I’m happy to back her on an each-way basis this afternoon. AFTERLIGHT is flying winning her past couple in easier company, she cannot be underestimated. Liked RINGAROSA’s closing effort first up, second up record not so good on paper. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet: DOLLAR MAGIC EACH-WAY RACE 9 I’m with the Queensland visitor MIDNIGHT IN TOYKO should she run here & not stay home (at Doomben). Second to the very impressive Dream Hour in the Gateway last start she looked the likely winner when dashing clear in the early part of the straight. STEP ASIDE was a good winner first up before having absolutely no luck last time out, held-up badly in the straight he was stiff not to win. I’ve finally jumped off GRACILISTYLA however I can still include him amongst the placegetters! Numbers: 5 – 11 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet: MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO/STEP ASIDE TO WIN RACE 10 CONTEMPORARY again at 1200m, he really does look to be chasing 1400m however he’s still likely to get away with one & it could well be today. I’ll definitely have a saver however I did like the first up run handed in by UNION ARMY who will settle back & look to get home over the top of them late, CONTEMPORARY will be looking to do similar however being second up UNION ARMY may be the sharper. PLUNDERING can place, he struggles to win however can definitely fill a top 3 position. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: UNION ARMY/CONTEMPORARY TO WIN Market Market
