Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on December 21, 2023December 21, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 He’s going to start nice & short STRAIGHT CHARGE however that’s not to be unexpected as he ran into a smart one on debut & has impressed at the trials. The Waterhouse/Bott stable have a huge number of youngsters in their stable & there doesn’t seem to be an average one amongst them. Hoping this one’s right up there with the best of them as he heads towards the Magic Millions in 3 weeks’ time. TARPAULIN trialled very well on Monday, unraced, looks a good type. ERNO’S CUBE in the mix should she have trained on from the impressive Newcastle win. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top two selections in exotics. RACE 2 Basically a midweek race for Saturday prizemoney as all runner’s bar I’m A Dirty Rascal who comes through a last start Listed race have recent midweek form, he rises 9.5kg on that run when under 2 lengths from the winner. Not keen on the race, I’ll lean to AUSPICIOUS CLOUD to turn the tables on FIRST LIGHT with a 1.5kg weight pull from there last start meeting where there was just over half a length between the pair on the line. FATHER’S DAY will give a sight. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Looks a suitable race for SHARP SHOCK however I wouldn’t want the track to be too rain affected. His recent form is better than most if not all engaged in this race & the step back up to 1600m looks very suitable, soft 5 or 6 no worse. MAZITA is only lightly raced & doing nothing wrong, suggest will roll forward, yes this is harder however he does get weight relief. MCKEON a chance should she be able to replicate the last start placing here. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 12 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 I’ve tipped NINGALOO STAR in a few of these Midway races over time & she rarely runs a bad race. Her latest was very good looking the winner in the straight before being set upon by the winner Terra Mater who looks an above average type. Up in the weights however I don’t see that as a major concern. UZZIAH generally comes to hand quickly, didn’t fire first up, suggest will improve second time around. CRIPPS TONIGHT draws far better than most, can place. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet: NINHALOO STAR TO WIN (small bet). RACE 5 CLEAR CHOICE looks best placed here having drawn a favourable gate. His form this prep is very consistent having placed all 5 runs with a win included in that tally. Beaten narrowly by BUILT two back he’s since run well in the Nowra Cup when racing 3 deep throughout & meets that one better at the weights today. Thought FUN SUNDAY could improve plenty second up, tempo well against when resuming. The lightly raced MISTRESS an improver. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet: CLEAR CHOICE TO WIN. RACE 6 VALIANCY looks well placed to break through at run number three this prep. Pulled up with a vet issue first up before placed in a fast run race where the form will stack up latest, well drawn for Craig Williams should run well. MISS HELLFIRE struggles to win but she is never far away, this is her pet trip. Good gate for PRINCIPESSA who has a very positive fresh record, chances certainly don’t end there. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: VALIANCY EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Extremely tough race. Going to lean to WAVERIDER BUOY however definitely on an each-way basis. She’s going to give away a start from the wide draw so will need a decent enough tempo up front, she’s very consistent & although doesn’t always win she’s never far away & looks the safe option. FOX FIGHTER can improve, WITH YOUR BLESSING can & needs to, close up of late however just lacking the killer dash in the straight. Could have easily missed the winner. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet: WAVERIDER BUOY EACH-WAY. RACE 8 He’s no easy horse to catch SINAWANN however he is with a new yard now which could make all the difference & he was an eye-catcher last start running on well at the end of 1200m. He will appreciate 1400m, I’ll have something each-way. WAIHAHA FALLS is also not the east to catch on his day however both runs this prep have been good, tricky gate to overcome though. PERFECT THOUGHT an improver second-up. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet: SINAWANN EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 9 On what looks a tough day this is the one I’ll be hanging my hopes on, ARISTONOUS. Liked his second trial running on from last & his first up run again from the back was a good one without looking a winning chance. To 1800m second up is ideal & he is clearly the horse to beat. The blinkers go on ROGUE BEAR who put in a good run behind a smart type last week, definite chance. SO UNITED generally takes a run & now has that under the belt, second up record is sound & the additional trip is a positive. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet: ARISTONOUS TO WIN. RACE 10 Race will be knocked around by scratchings with a number of dual acceptors engaged. Interesting runner is the resuming CEOLWULF who debuted 3rd in a Canterbury maiden before placing at Group 3 level two starts later. Could be too smart for these. ROBUSTO would be ready now fourth run back, all outings this prep sound & building to a win. SIR RAVANELLI is flying & just loves give in the ground. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet: CEOLWULF EACH-WAY. Market Market
