Chris Nelson’s Saturday Gold Coast Preview Posted on March 12, 2026March 12, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Big day of racing on the Gold Coast with the two 500k Jewel races the features, one for the 2yos & the other for the 3yo’s. We’re on a weather watch with the possibility of showers on Friday, should they not arrive or be only light expect a dry deck. There’s a number of very open looking races on the day & this opening event is certainly in that category! Good early support around for Kelly Schweida’s (7) FIRST MISSION who resumes from a break with a good fresh record (2 from 3). Trialled well & ran some nice races at only a short campaign when last in work. (12) CHALICE WELL is another who fires first-up, good gate has won a lead-up trial. (9) PROVANCE in the mix, happy to take on the favourite (16) King Of Minto. Numbers: 7 – 12 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet: Monitor market support nos.7 & 12. RACE 2 Speed looks solid on paper which will be some help to the Heathcote stable runner (11) AMUSEANTES. Spotted her warming up late at Doomben last start however she was too far back in the run to rate any chance. Unfortunately that is her pattern & she’s going to need plenty to fall her way to win this, at the odds though I’m happy to take the punt in a small way. (6) DOMINANT DARCY will again land a good run just off speed, she had plenty of favours last start & only scraped in, perhaps looking for the paddock however we will know more after today’s run. (12) ZOUFANI comes out of that same race as Darcy, beaten a small margin she’s right in this as well. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 12 – 9 Suggested Bet: AMUSEANTES EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 3 Maximum of 12 to face the starter here. The lightly raced (11) LOVEY DOVEY put together successive wins at Ipswich before just missing out at Eagle Farm when up in grade a fortnight back. The winner dictated whilst this mare gave a start before running home well, look for her to be doing the same here. (5) ROCK HARD LOVE had the race shot to pieces at Eagle Farm last start just peaking on his finish late, he again takes on further which is an unknown however I wouldn’t be overlooking. The very consistent (2) PRINCE LEVI maps ideally & is clearly the logical danger, he too did a good job in that ‘sprint home’ last start. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: LOVEY DOVEY EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 4 Leaning to (14) SULTRY SIREN in what does appear a very open race. Her most recent run was in a race which had plenty of speed suiting those who settled midfield/worse with the leaders all knocked up finishing well out of the money. She was the only one who stuck it out in the straight & with a good trip here rates a solid each-way chance. (11) BOOM SHOT has found the line well his past couple, the forecast showers will help him should they arrive. (3) CASTILLIAN should be ready to show up third run back from a break. Numbers: 14 – 11 – 3 – 12 Suggested Bet: SULTRY SIREN EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 5 (3) TALTARNI FIELDS was back to his best last start when ridden just off the lead. The start prior he was softened up in front & felt the pinch over the latter stages. From the ideal gate today the plan will be to park him exactly where he was last start, what I really liked about that last start win was his response when asked to dig deep late. (7) SCAMPI clearly the toughest to beat, freshened up off a couple of very good runs in stronger grade over the Magic Millions carnival. Claim & gate has him well in on paper, interestingly though is his dismal dry track record. (1) WANDA ROX & (2) FLEETWOOD are consistent & are musts for exotics players. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 The 2yo Jewel is a very, very open race as the early markets suggest. In the Preludes a fortnight ago at Eagle Farm the fillies division won by Cherry Bomshell (not racing here) was won in much slicker time than the colts & geldings. (7) ESPERANZA ran second behind Cherry Bomshell running on well from back in the field. Drawn out again I’d suggest she will again give away a start however the additional 200m is a big positive. (2) FINAL CRUSADE threw the Prelude away baulking near the winning post, maps so well here for a lethal combination. No knock (11) BRAVE ETOILE or the North Queenslander (1) BETTER BLITZEM who is unbeaten 4 from 4! Numbers: 7 – 2 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet: ESPERANZA EACH-WAY. RACE 7 The Gold Jewel looks a good race however 3 of the 4 early market favourites (2, 3 & 4) come up with wide gates suggesting they will all drift back & I don’t see a lot of pace likely on the map suggesting they are going to need things to fall their way. (3) ANEMACORE gets the nod, comes into the race off a freshen which is his winning pattern, 1400m is also his go. (2) HATCHET clearly better suited over 1200m however has won at this trip & is racing so well, don’t think I’ve seen him attack the line as strongly as he did last start. (4) BATTLEFIELD will enjoy 1400m however he’s the one likely to give the biggest start. I could easily have (11) JOHN RAMBO on top however he’s just too costly, once again on paper though he’s extremely well placed. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Maximum of 16 to face the starter in the 3yo Jewel where I’m going to need a lot of luck on my side with the top two selections both jumping from car park barriers! (3) FABULANTES is in outstanding form, he finished like a train along the fence to win two back before rounding up his rivals from last to win a fortnight ago. That win was arrogant & sometimes what you see with your own eyes outweighs bad gates etc. (2) EARN TO BURN carried more weight than any of his rivals in the Prelude & was running on well at the end, back at set weights he’s much better placed (apart from the barrier). (1) CALL DAVINCI has the best form of all having tackled stronger races in the Melbourne spring, keeping very safe. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet: FABULANTES EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Keen on the Gollan trained (8) ZOUBABY to win this feature for the fillies & mares. She impressed at Doomben two back zooming home to win a Class 3 before almost producing a carbon copy rising to Class 6 company same track last start just missing out. She looks ideally placed today from a good alley over a little further. Suggest (9) GOSPEL GIRL can bounce back, very much out of character last start when well out of the money. (14) CHALICE WELL & (10) MARGO’S DEEL both resume & can show up fresh. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 14 – 10 Suggested Bet: ZOUBABY TO WIN. RACE 10 No easy task this final race. I’ve landed on (6) DEMON DARB who will be even further suited should we go around on a track with give in it. Absolutely luckless two back he made amends last start when down in the weights. No reason he can’t keep that run of form going. (8) QUOTHQUAN is never far away, doesn’t win too often he beat all bar DEMON DARB last start. (2) SIBAAQ in the mix as are plenty of others. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet: DEMON DARB EACH-WAY. Market Market
