Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on February 19, 2026February 19, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben on Saturday will be on a good rated surface. We get the meeting underway with a 2yo affair where the Tony Gollan trained (6) MARTIST has opened up favourite however there’s plenty of value available. She’s looked good at her respective trials & is in the right yard to make a winning debut. Sunshine Coaster (1) DOUBTWILLY looked the goods winning on debut at his home track, he has the race experience edge which should count for plenty. (12) FLYING SCARLETT bolted in a recent trial, worth including whilst (3) EDRINGTON looks a little ‘overs’ in early markets. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 12 – 3 Suggested Bet: Market moves the key. RACE 2 Just a small field to go around in the distance race this week however it looks a competitive contest with three main winning chances on recent form. (3) ENTERPRISE PRIVATE lines up for his fourth straight win & I’m suggesting he can get the job done once again. Too strong for (1) PRINCE LEVI at the Sunshine Coast last start they meet again here & with PRINCE LEVI having won since that only franks the form of the top selection. (4) ARKADIAN EMPEROR may end up leading as there’s no clear front runner on paper, should that be the case & if left alone he may take some running down. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet: ENTERPRISE PRIVATE TO WIN. RACE 3 Keen to see what the market does with the lightly raced (11) TILL DUSK as we get closer to race time. Out of a betting yard she made her local debut (ex-Victoria) here at Doomben recently when chasing home a smart looking mare from the Gollan yard. She’s trialled well since & the 1350m trip looks very suitable. (9) THE STARS gave away too much start before running home well first up, solid in defeat last time out she should be ready to show up here. (5) FIREFORCE is certainly close to a win whilst I’ll include (2) BEREZKA however she’s burnt me in the past, I’m wary. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: Follow any market support for TILL DUSK. RACE 4 Going with some value here putting (9) LARIDAE on top. Highly doubt he’ll be the $61 he was last start however anything in double figures is worth a bet. Closing down the outside with the winner Make A Call there was a fair bit of interference near the 200 which the winner avoided however not this one who was badly held up. I like the way he wound up once clear & found the line, with a clearer run the entire straight he could have well made the result interesting. (11) THE WHEELBARROW takes on stronger opposition than at his last start win here however he’s lightly raced with upside & a good draw. Race gets very open from then on, go as wide as possible. Numbers: 9 – 11 – 16 – 6 Suggested Bet: LARIDAE EACH-WAY. RACE 5 Interesting race I’ve got down to two main chances being (1) FABULANTES & (9) CAPITAL CHORD. The former we know likes to be ridden cold as was the case last start when screaming home along the fence mowing down the leader late. Stays at the same trip today & surely doesn’t get the same rails run, may want further? (9) CAPITAL CHORD wasn’t the best to begin on debut however the gaps opened up in the straight & through she went. Note she led in her trial win prior, she could be well in front of her main rival in the run & although up in class I’ll lean her way. (8) WOOTTEN HYDE was solid in the same race & can fill a placing. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: CAPITAL CHORD TO WIN (small bet). RACE 6 Having a spec bet on two horses here as they have caught my eye running on of late & will be decent odds. (5) CREATIVITY MISS made up many lengths here a fortnight back in a race not run to suit, prior runs had been placings & she gets a little weight relief here. (15) MORE FOR READY also closed off nicely in the same race, same story at her previous two runs she too gets in very light. The obvious is the Gollan trained (12) TIME OF MY LIFE who wasn’t for catching here last start when leading throughout, likely improved further & gets Angela Jones to again do the steering, yet another well down in the weights. Numbers: 5 – 15 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet: Something small each-way top two selections. RACE 7 (14) SCRIPTED surely breaks through here. She’s had absolutely nothing go her way this prep which kicked off with a terrific finishing burst to beat all bar the winner at Eagle Farm. She’s since run a couple of seconds plus an unplaced last start effort when drawing wide & giving a massive start, on the line she was less than 3 lengths from the winner. She draws well & on paper there are no excuses, lets hope things pan out for her today. (11) AMUSEANTES has only put in the one subpar effort this prep, closed off nicely behind Press Link last start who has since won again, logical danger should there be one. (12) DOMINANT DARCY has a tidy sprint & will race up on speed, (1) ABENDER will be finding the line. Numbers: 14 – 11 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet: SCRIPTED TO WIN. RACE 8 (8) CHIEF IN CHARGE is racing in peak form at present & was scratched from Eagle Farm on Wednesday to be given a crack at Saturday grade on a track he relishes. He stormed home to win his latest & with a drop in weight to offset the class rise he’ll give this a decent shake. (7) BOOM SHOT would prefer a little more give in the ground however is always a chance, first up run was a good one hitting the line strongly. (15) BARRELLING was well supported last time & had his chance, can figure in the placings though. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 15 – 5 Suggested Bet: CHIEF IN CHARGE EACH-WAY. RACE 9 (7) BENGAL DIAMOND couldn’t have asked for a better ride from Ben Thompson last start beginning well & landing in the one x one, he’s got the key to this mare having ridden her to victory her last couple. However, he’s not riding her today & the second placed (5) ROCK HARD LOVE from the same race was just as good if not a better effort. Out the back from a wide gate he rattled home & with Maloney jumping on here that’s a good lead as they have combined successfully in the past. (3) MAKE A CALL zoomed home to win a race with plenty of interference first up, rise in trip ideal. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: ROCK HARD LOVE EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Keen on the chances of (13) ZOUBABY to make it two straight wins in this closing race. All 4 starts since coming up from NSW have been solid bar two back when just giving away too much start. She’s a mare who can really find the line which was evident last start when running home over the top of the leader. Closer in the run from a better draw today she’s going to prove very difficult to hold out. Freshened up (12) HEARTS ARE BETTER will likely lead or close to it, trialled well recently since last raced can give a sight. (3) TALTARNI FIELDS an improver, too much pressure last start may take a trail today. Numbers: 13 – 12 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: ZOUBABY TO WIN. Market Market
