Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on October 23, 2025October 23, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing in Brisbane on Saturday comes from Doomben. Chance of a shower or two which would be very welcome however it would do little to affect this surface. We get underway with a 2yo affair, our second sighting of the new season youngsters with only (3) LADY OF FIVE having had any race experience. She backed up her impressive trial form with a strong win here a fortnight back & can keep her 100% record intact. Of the debutantes Tony Gollan’s (4) I AM THAT GIRL has shown up well at the trials, should there be a danger it’s likely her. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: LADY OF FIVE TO WIN/straight exacta with # 4. RACE 2 (3) THE ENCHANTER rolls forward here & puts himself right in the firing line from the outset. He finished close-up on successive occasions before heavily supported to score here last start, with the claim he’ll carry only 0.5kg extra & his stable is flying! BIG watch on the resuming (5) FIRST MISSION who joins the Kelly Schweida yard, did win fresh last prep & trials suggest he’ll run a race. (13) SYNERGY IN MOTION drops back in trip & has the speed to also settle on the lead. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 13 – 4 Suggested Bet: THE ENCHANTER EACH-WAY. RACE 3 Very keen on the chances of (3) ROYAL MOVER making it 3 wins from as many starts. Appreciating a strong tempo he hit the line powerfully to score at Doomben running clear of his rivals last start suggesting the additional 200m today will suit perfectly. (1) HA’PENNY HATCH led last start which was well out of character however it was 1400m & the tempo was very leisurely, don’t expect that to happen here over 1200m however she’s in the place mix. (8) MAKING NEWS settles on speed, draws ideally & is in winning form, more seasoned now to have another attempt at the 1200m than last prep. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: ROYAL MOVER TO WIN. RACE 4 (9) LITTLE JEANIE certainly doesn’t win out of turn however she does appear well placed in this race & I’d be very surprised to see her miss a placing. Thought she closed off nicely albeit without threat behind Heman here 3 weeks ago & she’s going to land a good spot behind the speed from gate 1 today, she also drops plenty in the weights. (10) THINKHARDANDFAST only got warm late when first up at Toowoomba on their Cup Day, she’ll get further than the 1350m of this race however at this stage it’s fine. (1) IMPOSANT is close, can she give away weight to her rivals? Well, the claim certainly helps offset some of that. (5) HEYOKA will race on speed & I thought was good last start breezing on a strong tempo. Numbers: 9 – 10 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: LITTLE JEANIE EACH-WAY. RACE 5 Free Carry leads for fun here however he hasn’t been any ‘fun’ for punters of late so although I can see him winning this on his best form, I just have to jump ship. (1) CABOCHE is a consistent galloper who mixes his distances up however rarely puts in a poor one. He’ll park in the first few & will always give his best late. (8) LUDOVISI may be the one we don’t really expect to go forward that ends up doing so & should that be the case he’s in the right form to win the race. No knock on the form of (4) VICTORY WIN however from out the back tempo will be crucial, is there enough of it? Numbers: 1 – 7 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Surely Mr Buster stays home after winning at Eagle Farm on Wednesday? He’s still in the field with a 2kg penalty as I type… (8) INDY ROSE WARRIOR goes to 2000m for the very first time, she’s won over 1800m & hit the line well at 1830m finishing on the heels of the placegetters. She’s had a couple of runs back from a break & should be almost ready, this run or next? Market will guide us. (6) KALUAKOI will appreciate getting out to the longer trip, sound last start the claim a big help. (1) TWIGMAN in the mix as is (11) MR BUSTER should he end up going around. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Plenty of early scratchings & there could be more to come. I’m going with value putting (18) DOWNEY on top at good odds. He certainly caught the eye two back running on at the Gold Coast before trapped wide at Toowoomba last start which was an effort we need to put the pen through. (6) COLOPHON didn’t beat much at the Gold Coast however it was a very easy victory scoring by well over 4 lengths. He takes on a tougher task here however drops 6kg to help offset. (2) LOST HIS BEANS has excuses his final two runs last prep, good fresh & trialled nicely. Numbers: 18 – 6 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet: DOWNEY EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 8 Expecting improvement from (6) THE LITTLE PUMPER who made a mess of the start at his latest run before making ground albeit without any threat. I can see him a lot closer with a cleaner getaway today & with the senior jock going back on & 4kg less weight he does look well placed. (5) ANEMACORE was all set to resume last Saturday however the weather put an end to that, good fresh however is a better horse at Eagle Farm. (1) WARBY drops back in grade & is a likely improver. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: THE LITTLE PUMPER EACH-WAY. RACE 9 I have to stick with the backmarker (1) KEITEL who has been very consistent this prep winning once & placing twice from his 3 attempts. He needs tempo up front in his races which he hasn’t had at any of those outings yet he’s still closed off strongly on each occasion. The harder they go up front, the better his chances. (21) MARGO’S DEEL is in a similar situation, super impressive winning here two back before strong to the line latest. (10) CHAMIERRO is aiming for 4 on the trot & it’s not an impossible task. Numbers: 1 – 21 – 10 – 15 Suggested Bet: KEITEL EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Keen on the chances of (6) HATCHET making it two straight wins in this closing race. Solid fresh in a very small field he then showed the benefits of that run when charging clear of his rivals here over this trip last start. He loves Doomben & looks very well placed to make it 7 wins on the track. (5) NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY got back first up & did look in a bit of trouble, well the apprentice found a way through & she arrived right on the line, expect another good run from her. (7) BAND OF BROTHERS maps very well; does he get a strong 1200m though? Numbers: 6 – 5 – 7 – 13 Suggested Bet: HATCHET TO WIN. Market Market
