Deane’s Caulfield Saturday Selections Posted on September 23, 2016September 27, 2016 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 1 NO. 5 JALAN JALAN Talented mare JALAN JALAN kicks off her spring campaign when she runs in the Alfred Hospital Plate (1100m) and should prove hard to beat. The Colin Little trained mare goes well fresh, races well at Caulfield and has trialled well in recent weeks for her return to the track. She is drawn for a good run and looks ideally placed to record her third career win. On a strong program, JALAN JALAN looks one of the better bets of the day. SuperPick - Race 1 No. 5 Jalan Jalan - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 6 NO. 6 ARCHIVES ARCHIVES can stakes his claim for next month’s Caulfield Guineas (1600m) with a win in the Guineas Prelude (1400m). The son of Helmet resumed from a spell with a solid second behind SARACINO in the Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 10. He finished strongly on that occasion suggesting that he will relish a step up in distance here. Whilst the Godolphin team lost their main Guineas prospect ASTERN earlier in the week, ARCHIVES looks the ideal type to measure up and run well in this race before having a crack at the Group one classic. In a competitive race, ARCHIVES looks a good each way play. RACE 8 NO. 11 LUCIA VALENTINA Quality mare LUCIA VALENTINA looks poised for further group one success when she runs in the Underwood Stakes (1800m). The six year old showed her class winning the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick in April. She resumed from a spell with a solid 4th behind the mighty WINX over 1400 metres at Randwick on August 20. She will be suited by the extra distance of this race and astute trainer Kris Lees has given her five weeks between runs as she always performs best when she is fresh. This is a very suitable race and LUCIA VALENTINA clearly looks the one to beat.
