Chris Nelson’s Saturday Gold Coast Preview Posted on September 17, 2026September 17, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Pink Ribbon Day at the Gold Coast under fine skies with a temp in the high 20’s, bring it on! We get the meeting underway with a restricted affair over 1400m where I’m leaning to (5) YES DONALD YES who finished too well for the opposition winning here last start here. Perfectly drawn he’ll land the right run & strips fitter with plenty of upside having only had the 5 starts. (12) THAT’S ARCHIES GIRL has the right form however not the right gate, will need luck. (16) MADAME CODY will roll forward & put herself in the race from the outset. 3kg off for Emily Pozman a big plus. Numbers: 5 – 12 – 16 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Interesting race for the 3yo’s, two main chances imo being (1) EXCEED THE SALE & (4) WEOWNACHEVY. I’ll lean to the former who has the stronger form lines & if not for laying out in the straight last start very likely makes it 3 straight wins. The inside gate suggests she’ll cover no additional ground today & the claim for Bella Youngberry a bonus, the way she’s riding she doesn’t need one! (4) WEOWNACHEVY was luckless two back before quickly making up for that last start running away late to break his maiden status. (2) MARIA CLARA in the mix also, she’s going well as is her stable. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: EXCEED THE SALE TO WIN. RACE 3 Can’t believe I’m tipping (3) CAPTAIN MAVERICK however I wouldn’t suggest you have your last on him. Very consistent without winning he just looks to have found the right race (I’m sure I’ve said that before) rising nothing in weight & coming back in distance. (10) TARAVIA is only lightly raced & progressing well, all the way winner at the Sunshine Coast last start can continue to improve. Last start winner (2) SOCIAL OUTCAST in the mix also. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up to 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 Unfortunately a raffle at this early stage with plenty of scratchings likely. I’ll lean to (7) DARK ARTS who strips fitter for the one start back running home strongly behind Amuseantes at Doomben. Drops in weight after the claim & is a very consistent type rarely out of the placings in recent times. Not the best of draws for (2) LIM’S SHAVANO however there’s no getting away from his big finishing burst first run since leaving Hong Kong, that was a real eye-catcher. (10) STRADA VARENNA ticks plenty of boxes whilst the early favourite (18) CANAL must be included, faces a step up in class however winning form is the best form. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 10 – 18 Suggested Bet: Wide exotics best. RACE 5 There seems to be no stopping (6) PRECISE STAR since joining the Gollan stable. 4 starts for as many wins seemingly getting better with each one. Tough as nails last start he wore down the leader & drops plenty in weight this time around. He maps in the first couple & will only relish the rise in trip. (1) NORTH POLE is getting close; he may well lead here & his form line is strong behind last week’s winner Livalittle. (11) BARBRAY the other runner with a winning chance. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 11 – 4 Suggested Bet: PRECISE STAR TO WIN. RACE 6 Leaning to the very consistent (12) SPIRIT OF BARTY who is never far away however just can’t quite seem to break through. On face value she did have her chance to run down the winner last start however I just thought she looked a little reluctant squeezing through against the rail which isn’t uncommon. 3 weeks between starts keeps her nice & fresh & she’ll appreciate the light weight this afternoon. (1) SCUD races well here & has been freshened right up, she races best that way can finish hard with a clear run at them. (10) HOWDOYOUZOU is very promising, the stable will tell you that, just has to deal with a wide draw. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet: SPIRIT OF BARTY EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Small field & on paper not much in the way of early speed with Grand Impact & Kintyre likely controlling the tempo. The resuming (9) SOVERATO is an interesting runner, given a break after a winter carnival campaign up here she’s better suited over further however I’m not convinced those leaders will be strong late & drawn the pole she might just be close enough to reel them in. Hard to entertain anything other than that trio winning the race. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: SOVERATO EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Keen on the chances of (4) METAPHORICALLY who was dominant winning his first local start for Beaudesert trainer Jeff Dunn. Without doubt he has his share of ability however has had issues along the way, should he remain sound he can win better races & note the horse he easily accounted for at Ipswich won at Doomben on Wednesday. Poor gate for (3) CHIEF IN CHARGE however he generally improves second-up which is exactly where he’s at today. (1) ABSOLUTE SUNSHINE lumped 63kg to win here first up, big effort & only strips fitter. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: METAPHORICALLY TO WIN. RACE 9 Feature race of the day is the Pink Ribbon Cup for the fillies & mares. (8) HURRICANE LU looks very well placed having run some very good races this prep yet only having the single win to show for her efforts. The key to her consistency has no doubt been the step up in distance this prep, the 1400m range just seems to be a perfect fit. (3) CARRAVILLA & (4) TORNADO EXPRESS continue to race consistently & are in the mix, more the place though. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: HURRICANE LU TO WIN. RACE 10 We wind up the day with a race which looks to have plenty of speed providing all/most turn up. I’m hoping they do as my top tip (3) FABULANTES is most effective when not bustled early given time to settle. Once wound up though he can produce a big finish & should those leaders be feeling the pinch he’ll be right there to mow them down. (6) SURPRISE HONEY is flying this prep; there was something about that last start win that suggested she’s gone to or is about to hit a new level. The consistent (9) TEN DEEP resumes with g good fresh record & has trialled well, wide gate the concern, will need luck. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet: FABULANTES EACH-WAY. Market Market
