Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview

Race 1

GUARANTOR is no star but this does look a suitable set up for him. He’ll hold a tactical advantage over the fav in running and the other horse in the market will likely be dictated to along the cutaway. Looks a great chance to bounce out, park on speed and try to pinch this on straightening. SO SI GOD didn’t look at all comfortable on a Soft7 type track first-up. There’s no doubting she’s got a class edge on these on a fair playing surface, but still queries on how she’ll handle the track and whether she’s a 1000m horse. Few unknowns for an odds on pop? HEZ GOT THE SAFE looked like he was going well enough to run past Guarantor if the runs had come for him. JOYOH did win first-up at 1000 last prep.

Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 5

Suggested Bet – GUARANTOR WIN

Race 2

BELIEVE AGAIN is another Grant & Alana Williams debutante stepping out in this August/September period which is typical of their Champion Fillies / WA Guineas types – who could be on a hit and run mission to get a win on the board, get some experience in the bank and then head off for a spell. Cassandra, Secret Planet, Juniper…Believe Again? JUST YES has only had one run in his life and it was at 1400m at Belmont back in April when finishing off into fourth behind Spellborn, Arizona Sky and Shimmery Star. That looks a form reference with just as much depth to it as this and with the rail out 18m (with a cutaway) and a tired track, it may just prove to be the wider the better? VAMPI QUEEN has always been held in high regard by the market but has had her chance on occasion. BOUTIQUE BELLE looks destined to do it tough.

Numbers: 13 – 5 – 10 – 9

Suggested Bet – BELIEVE AGAIN WIN

Race 3

NEWHAVEN PRINCE ran really well first-up behind subsequent winner The Rocket and then second-up loomed the winner at 1400m before hitting a big brick wall at the 100m marker. Comes back to 1200m, can be ridden forward or rearward to suit the track pattern and in a capacity line up of maidens you’re likely to get nearly eachway the field in an extremely open and even contest. BUBBLES IN RIO has gone better since they’ve started riding her for cover and with the third placed horse from that form reference race in stablemate Hot Chix Lane winning last week the form has been franked. Just a bit of a query on her at 1200 and being a 19 start maiden. ALL THE STARS ran really well on debut from the breeze in a fast run race and then did everything possible wrong at start number two. OSCARS NO GROUCH has become a bit of a tease already.

Numbers: 3 – 6 – 4 – 1

Suggested Bet – NEWHAVEN PRINCE EACHWAY

Race 4

GET OUT MICK is bursting to win a race. Stiff not to win five back behind Kelvinator, massive in defeat three back behind Yes I Know and God’s Gate three back, split Cinque Stelle and Refemme No Angel two back and then on the weekend finished a luckless sixth behind Main Act in a Westspeed Platinum. On the quick back-up from Saturday to Wednesday and is going as well as anything in this line-up. CHAMPAGNE CRUSADER will probably never quite reach the same level that saw him a flashing light run behind Twisted Steel in a Magic Millions but he can pinch a 0MWLY/Westspeed/Grad 1200 this prep. CLEANEMUP has been caught in this grade for a while now. She’s running consistent honest races and maps a treat but does tend to find one better on the day. LUCKY I AM finally ran a half decent race last start after being plunged unsuccessfully first-up and second-up. Starting to turn a corner.

Numbers: 8 – 2 – 6 – 3

Suggested Bet – GET OUT MICK EACHWAY

Race 5

GINGER AND TONIC doesn’t win out of turn (1 from 34) but she’s always around the mark and this race does contain a lot of horses who aren’t overly fond of having their photo taken by the team at Western Racepix. Last start in a C3 she finished third to Zeezea and Cosmic Spirit – that’s stronger form than most bring to the table and you’ll get eachway which is exactly what you need to entertain a mare with her strikerate. GRANDADS ADDICTION continues to knock on the door but just like Ginger and Tonic he’s 1 from 25. Hard to get too enthused when he’ll jump favourite and likely under $4. POINT GIBRALTAR bolted in his maiden and then held his own in a C1 under the 60kg. GOLD BEAU is kept fresh and wasn’t too bad second-up.

Numbers: 6 – 8 – 1 – 2

Suggested Bet – GINGER AND TONIC EACHWAY

Race 6

DELICATE WARRIOR broke his maiden at 2200 and then went into a 54+ 2100 last start – a race that the majority of the market elects come through – and thought he may have just gone a little too slow for his own good, and allowed horses to be right on top of him on straightening with momentum down the centre. Thought he actually did quite a good job to keep fighting on in the finish and will go around double figures in a race that in all honesty is more or less a raffle! ARGYLE STAR won a Dongara Cup when last in work but also won three in a row between 1760 and 2200 on the grass at Northam and Kalgoorlie. Looks nearly ready. SISTER MARY continues to show up deep into a campaign and drops back in grade out of a 60+ Graduation. HERE FOR CHEQUES seems to have forgotten how to win.

Numbers: 3 – 2 – 7 – 1

Suggested Bet – DELICATE WARRIOR EACHWAY

Race 7

CLASSIC RULER sat wide throughout last start in a very similar race to this and with Olaf The Snowman coming out and winning on Saturday (albeit in one of the weakest races of all time) it looks decent enough form to be winning this, especially with Pike sticking. Expect they’ll be making ground by this stage of the day and that suits a sit – sprint type like her. CENTRE BOND isn’t easy to catch, however, he’s got the ability to be winning better races than this. Just needs the right cart into it from a tricky alley. Ran better than his trial which is encouraging. ABOUT TURN can lead and expect that’ll be the best way to navigate barrier 1 on Wednesday and avoid the cutaway zone. PURE OBSESSION is building into his campaign now after a slow start.

Numbers: 9 – 1 – 5 – 2

Suggested Bet – CLASSIC RULER WIN
