Chris Nelson’s Saturday Toowoomba Preview Posted on September 25, 2025September 25, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Big day of racing at Clifford Park Toowoomba with the Weetwood & Cup the features on a 9-race card to be run in fine & warm conditions. I’ll side with (3) PRE EMINENCE in this opening race however I have no firm conviction. He ticks a few boxes though drawing well which will enable him to park on speed, he’s a first up winner & has also trialled well for his return today. (10) EXPRESS CODE is a very interesting runner, beat only 3 rivals here on debut in a weak maiden however had plenty in the tank with the jock looking around several times, hard to line up. (1) BOSSED UP had plenty against fresh predominantly a wide gate, not the clearest of runs home either yet he did make ground. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 He’s a very difficult horse to catch on his day (1) OUR MAGNUS however this looks suitable & I’m suggesting if you do have something on make sure it’s each-way as he certainly knows how to run a placing! (7) BIG BOY GEORGE didn’t quite measure up in town last prep however his earlier prep wins around here were impressive & from the pole draw he should get the favours. (6) RUNWITHTHETIDE is better known as a leader, he missed the kick last start settling back before running home strongly, what will be the tactics here? Numbers: 1 – 7 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet: OUR MAGNUS EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 3 The concern in this race is the lack of a leader, there’s nothing obvious going forward, early tactics could prove very important. (3) JUST PRECIOUS drawn the pole gate won’t be far away no matter what goes on early & looks the safe best in the race. Although bred to run a trip her best efforts have been at this 1200m range which she drops back to here. (1) PHENOM has the class placing twice at Group 3 level last prep however keep in mind they were at 1600 & 1800m. Market will be the best guide to her fitness levels? (2) HIDDEN MELODY & (5) BRIGHT BLONDE likely give starts from their wide gates, maybe one of the pair (or both) roll the dice & go forward? Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: JUST PRECIOUS EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Going to stick with (2) FREE CARRY here who on paper was disappointing at Doomben last start when having all the favours in front yet being run down late. The 5kg weight difference likely played a part & interesting to see the stable have gone with a 3kg claim today. Stablemate (5) EXCEED SPEED was fortunate to beat Make A Call last start, note that one has subsequently won (last Saturday) in dominant fashion franking the form line. (10) LUDOVISI next best. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 10 – 12 Suggested Bet: FREE CARRY TO WIN. RACE 5 Extremely open race where I’m leaning to the locally trained (7) THE DEPUTY on an each-way basis. His record here on his home track is very impressive, note he’s yet to miss out at all over the track & trip winning 4 & placing 3 of his 7 attempts. Freshened up with the leading jockey to steer keep a close eye on the market. (8) FLYWHEEL has struck form of late; he’s a chance in a race such as this whilst another local (12) KINROSS LANE who stormed home to win fresh has good upside. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 12 – 16 Suggested Bet: THE DEPUTY EACH-WAY. RACE 6 Exciting last start winner (4) ABOUT TO EXPLODE likely starts here & misses out on a run in the Weetwood where he is an emergency. I’m in his corner no matter what race he goes around in as he was outstanding from the back clocking a super sectional to win at Doomben. Just get the feeling the penny has really dropped with him now & he’ll keep on improving. (3) VIMINELE blew the start when very well fancied at Doomben, first up run was a cracker, logical danger. (5) BATTLEFIELD is getting close whilst (1) SUBSTANTIAL made good ground first-up, just not sure about the drop back to 1200m though. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet: ABOUT TO EXPLODE TO WIN. RACE 7 First of the feature races is the Toowoomba Cup where I’m sticking with the strength putting the Tony Gollan trained (10) QUEEN AIR on top. She’s had the two runs back from a break just catching the eye very late making ground to the line at her latest which suggests she’s just about ready to strike & with the light weight this could be the race. (3) CABOCHE tens to go around on a regular basis & he not alone here in that regard, he did plenty of work last start sticking on well & the rise to 2000m should suit. (1) ENCODER needs a good track & a solid speed, he’s definitely getting the good track, not so sure about the other! Numbers: 10 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: QUEEN AIR EACH-WAY. RACE 8 (16) ABOUT TO EXPLODE needs two scratchings to find his way into the Weetwood field & as I type, we have a grand total of none, however there’s plenty of water to flow under the bridge before 7.30am Saturday morning. As I mentioned in Race 6 today his win at Doomben was outstanding & even stepping up to this level I’m with him. Should he not gain a run the race becomes very open, I’ll lean to the consistent (2) NETTUNO who should land an economical run from the good draw. (3) THE INFLICTOR & (4) SHA OF GOMER were both pass marks first up in a race where nothing made any ground (slowly run). Numbers: 16 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: ABOUT TO EXPLODE TO WIN (fingers crossed). RACE 9 The closing race is the Toowoomba Guineas & the two stablemates at the top of the markets (5) IMPERVIOUS & (6) FOREIGN PRESS look to have the race between them. Tactics will be all important, where will IMPERVIOUS head from the wide gate as she’s raced on speed her last couple of runs winning both, FOREIGN PRESS has also raced on speed & I loved the way she sprinted to the line at the end of her latest win. She draws the better gate I’ll lean her way. (1) WORTHY ENUFF gets a little further here which should suit. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 2 selections in quinella/exactas.
