Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on August 28, 2025August 28, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 We’re racing at Rosehill & the good news is the Sydney weather has turned for the better this week, we’ll be very close to a good rated surface after a run of heavy track Saturdays, bring it on! The meeting gets underway with an 1800m Midway where I’m leaning to the lightly raced (7) WILD THOUGHTS who is in cracking form this prep, yes this is harder however he’s got plenty of upside & drops 3kg to help offset the rise in class. (10) STARPHISTOCATED draws perfectly & hasn’t been far away in town of late, gets in with a light weight. Definitely no knock (4) MONKHANA bar the awkward alley, she’s been racing well on wet tracks this prep however keep in mind she’s also a two-time dry track winner. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Another Highway, another lottery! I’ve always been a fan of (4) WARRIOR FOR PEACE who resumes here & might find the 1400m to his liking whilst fresh. He’s a backmarker, don’t expect him up on the pace however he owns a very strong finish & I won’t be the least surprised to see him roll right over the top of the leaders late. (2) SHIPSHAPE & (3) SOLITARIO certainly have the form to figure whilst (19) GREAT IDEA in the mix should he gain a start with the engagement of Zac Lloyd a positive one. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 19 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 I’m sticking with the consistent (1) SACRED ROCKS who has raced well all prep for a mare who in my opinion hasn’t been all that well suited on the recent wet tracks. She’s never shirked her task though & back on almost (if not) a good track today rising to 1500m she looks well placed. (7) AMREEKIYAH tasted defeat for the first time here last start on a heavy track, which was her first try at Saturday grade & she’ll be all the better for it, logical danger. (8) SISTER DAE next best. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet: SACRED ROCKS TO WIN. RACE 4 Very interesting race with most of that interest centring around the former Kiwi (9) NKOSI. Why? Well, he was very impressive winning at his local debut at Wyong however there’s definitely a couple of queries from the win being he beat nothing & he did it on a heavy track, plus keep in mind he finished well out of the placings at his only run on a good surface back home in February. I’m going with him though as he basically trotted in & lumped 61kg in the process. (4) CAPTAIN FURAI gave away far too much start second up, he may be a wet tracker? Respect the Melbourne form of (3) ROGUE ROCKER who looks close to a win. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: NKOSI EACH-WAY. RACE 5 (3) AMUSING has really hit her straps with the step up in distances of late & for a mare who I thought would be better on dry ground she’s won her past couple on heavy decks. Maybe she is better suited on firmer surfaces, we’ll find that out today, I don’t see any reason to jump ship. Stablemate (11) TAZIMA is promising, only lightly raced the ex-Irish bred galloper has won up to 2011m back home & relished the 1800m last time, logical danger. (1) TRAVOLTA must be included. Numbers: 3 – 11 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: AMUSING & TAZIMA TO WIN. RACE 6 Not a stellar Group 2 Up And Coming Stakes & we lose Central Coast who trialled on Thursday morning. (2) PROVIDENCE hit the line strongly in the Group 1 J. J. Atkins & although obviously suited over further as his campaign wears on 1300m at this stage should suit & he certainly looked forward enough in a recent trial win. (1) AERODROME has also tuned up for this with a trial victory, likely the hardest to beat. (4) SIXTIES bolted in his maiden in midweek company last start, I’m always wary of big winning margins on heavy tracks however he must go in here somewhere. (3) GRAND PRARIE might just struggle at the 1300m. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: PROVIDENCE TO WIN. RACE 7 Good race with some very progressive types engaged. I’ll lean to the second-up (3) ROSELYN’S STAR who put in a cracking run here a fortnight back when posted wide the entire trip, entitled to throw in the towel down the straight she fought on well to finish under a length from the winner. Fitter, drawn well today & stays at the same distance. (10) WITHOUT PARALLEL is unbeaten & just keeps improving with each win, she has a ton of upside & will prove extremely hard to beat. (6) POLYGLOT also ran well fresh & gets J. Mac to steer once again. (8) DANCE TO THE BOOM won her first 3 starts before failing when stepping up to something stronger last time. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 The Group 3 San Domenico sees the return of the highly rated (5) WODETON who was the long-time Golden Slipper favourite before being unseated from that position prior to the race. He ended up running a terrific second & then backed that up with a solid placing in the Sires when wide throughout. Two lead-up trials finishing close up the first, very soft out of the placings the most recent. Well drawn hard to beat. (7) RAGING FORCE absolutely trounced his opposition at 3 winter outings, can he measure up at this level, those wins suggest he definitely can. No knock (1) DEVIL NIGHT who was far from disgraced in the Slipper enduring a wide run, landed the Blue Diamond the start prior & is the only Group 1 winner in the field. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Interesting race at this early stage where I’m leaning to the fourth emergency (22) LORD PENMAN who I’ll confess will be lucky to gain a start. He’s an ex-Kiwi who found the line in great style at his first local outing winding up beating all bar the winner. That run & his efforts back home suggest the rise in distance is ideal. (13) HALF YOURS is on his way to the major spring Cups, the way he won the Caloundra Cup suggests he’s right in the mix & don’t be surprised to see him sprint well fresh today. (7) MCHALE is 3 from 3 fresh, he beat Gringotts first up last prep. Numbers: 22 – 13 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet: LORD PENMAN EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Going with the resuming (16) SERGEANT MAJOR to send us home on a winning note. He’ll have his first outing as a 4yo having won the Listed South Pacific at his final run last prep, he ran fourth to the very smart Autumn Boy the start prior, nothing great about his lead-up trials, hopefully there’s market support? (5) BUNKER HUT draws horribly however is in form & well placed taking the gate out of the equation, had he drawn favourably he’d be right in the market. (7) LORD PENMAN may go around here if unable to gain a start in the previous, I’d prefer him in that race however staying at 1200m here he’s still a place chance. (10) PERFUMIST may need one more? Numbers: 16 – 5 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
