Scott Embry’s Sunday Albany Preview Posted on April 25, 2025April 25, 2025 | Posted by Shayne Williams RACE 1 SWINDLE THE DOUGH heads to a country maiden after a string of encouraging performances in the provincial area. He’s got a positive racing pattern, he’s got blinkers added, he’s got a barrier and arguably most importantly in a maiden like this, he’s got Tash Faithfull. Straight to the front and takes running down. HIGHLY SPOKEN ran well fresh and then was off the track second-up. He’ll be winning one soon. BULLS EYE PERFECT is now a 30 start maiden – he’s going well but continues to find one or two better. LONG WAIT gets a long way back. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – SWINDLE THE DOUGH WIN RACE 2 PURO ran fourth behind Niccimota in a fast run maiden down the straight at Pinjarra and then was really well supported last weekend at Albany on Cup Day when second behind impressive winner Gaspardo. On the quick back-up, out to 1230m and provided she can overcome a tricky barrier looks the one to beat. FOUR SEAS is through the same race and was only a long neck behind her in the finish. There’s little between them and it likely comes down to who gets the better run in transit. SANSANEE trialled well but hasn’t set the world on fire since. QUICK COOKIE went close a few times last prep. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – PURO WIN RACE 3 BLUE LINE was a late scratching recently and has since trialled. 6 weeks between runs and 61.5kg means that he’s set a task but he’s also a last start 70+ winner in a 58+. Like the fact that Sam Faithfull has elected to carry the weight rather than claiming – a show of intent, especially when there’s so many claiming apprentices available at the meeting. Class horse. YARDSTICK ran second to Platinum Shot at 50-1 five starts ago. Hardly fired a shot since. DYNAMITE BAY put on his annual clinic at Pingrup. Not the same horse on the grass. TINY’N’TUFF a watch for the new yard. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – BLUE LINE WIN RACE 4 HENRY THE AVIATOR sat wide throughout last start and faded late. Prior to that he finished second int own to Correct Choice and only three starts back he was a winner this track/distance/grade for Casey Hunter. Looks winnable for him. KNOT SECRET is a last start Westspeed Platinum winner at Ascot who heads down to Albany into a 70+. The last time he was here he finished 2L off Henry The Aviator and gets a 1kg weight swing from that encounter. GIFT OF THE HEART has bounced back to form. Amy Jo Hayes is riding him to his strength which is his high cruising speed and see no reason why he won’t be in front for a long way here. COUSIN IVAN has turned the clock back. He’s flying. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – HENRY THE AVIATOR WIN RACE 5 SECRET STONES has been a model of consistency this prep and with way too much speed in this race expect that Jason Whiting will opt out of the early speed battle and look to park in behind the pace and save him up for a late run. INSYDE SUCCESS is double accepted for Ascot on Saturday and Albany on Sunday. Given the fact he’s drawn barrier 1 Saturday and barrier 10/10 with 60kg on Sunday you’d imagine that he’s running at Ascot? RODNEY OH RODNEY loves the picnic meetings. This is harder. TEABISCUIT and OUTLAW MUSIC are all or nothing types. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – SECRET STONES WIN RACE 6 GOD HAS DRIFTED has won his last two in style and looks like a progressive 4 year old. Think he’s the kind of horse who can keep winning in the region and it would be no surprise to see him win this Heat of the Series and then line-up at Belmont with legitimate claims in the Final. PEDAL POWER drops back into 58+ grade. Three starts back he finished third behind Flying South with 63kg on his back. This is a wonderful use of Sharni Webster’s 4kg claim and if she parks him three deep no cover so be it. Use the claim and put him into the race. CALL OF DUTY got too far out of his ground last week and wanted to lay inwards badly late. LOST GRAVITY is nicely placed. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – GOD HAS DRIFTED WIN RACE 7 BERNBRAE looks a 3100m type. She’s only won two races in her life and they’ve both been over 2200m. Last start at 2400m she hit a really bad flat spot at the 600 but was coming again in the last 100m. Jarrad Noske will earn his riding fee, she’ll look gone at stages but she’ll keep coming. ROYAL LAW has to lump 60kg over the journey which is not easy but he looks like he’ll stay all day. MAGIC MIKEY tucks away and has a soft run. Up 1380m is a huge unknown, but it is for all of them except MISTER POPCORN who won this race last year leading throughout. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 10 – 6 Suggested Bet – BERNBRAE WIN RACE 8 VOMO ISLAND lead for a big portion of the race last week and was only run down late by God Has Drifted who does look to be at a better level than C2 company. Off 7 days, out to 1500m, again likely to lead and roll and considering he’s placed under 62kg see no obvious reason why you wouldn’t be with him after the claim? KAMIKAZE FIGHTER is as consistent as they come. He’ll roll forward into a decent spot early and from there is a legitimate danger. PRAY FOR LUCY is fit and while coming back 400m is a query at least he can be put into the race. SIR BEAR A LOT is first-up at 1500m but Sam Faithfull gets them fit. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – VOMO ISLAND WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,5 1,3,4,5,6 1,2,6,10,12 1,2,4,8 Market Market
