Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on April 10, 2025April 10, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben on Saturday should be on Soft/Good ground, just depends on a few possible showers forecast on race day. (2) GET READY LASS was very impressive winning her maiden first up on the Gold Coast. She went straight to the front & was never for catching increasing her margin all the way to the line. Her only other start was a good one in the Debut at the same track over the Magic Millions carnival. (1) CUDDLES FOR KIMMY’s last start Toowoomba run doesn’t look good on face value however the track & conditions that day were atrocious, total forgive. (6) DRAGONNE ROUGE raced wide on debut yet still got the job done, next best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet: GET READY LASS TO WIN RACE 2 (7) SCARLET PRINCE hasn’t raced for a month however importantly he does drop back in distance 200m. He’s been in great form since linking up with the John Smerdon stable this prep winning two straight before sound behind an above average type last time out. He likes to roll forward & from gate number 1 that’s a given. (11) SO YOU ARE is the runner with no convictions, likely not suited by the slight distance reduction last start gets back to 2200m today. (9) AIDEN is never far away, (6) ROLLER COASTER has hit form. Numbers: 7 – 11 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet: SCARLET PRINCE EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 3 Thought (12) CARPACCIO was a good thing beaten here last start when just allowed to get too far back & then leaving his run too late. He flashed home cutting the margin to less than half a length from the winner however needed to be ridden with more urgency, had he been, he would have won. I’ll stick here as he’s busting to win one & this race looks low on opposition. (1) THE RIGHT WAY should be ready to go very close second-up, gets to a very suitable trip now. (15) SHE’S GOT VEUVE will need speed on. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 15 – 2 Suggested Bet: CARPACCIO TO WIN RACE 4 Keen on the chances of (1) APUNTAR who maps ideally in a race with little speed on paper. Last weeks Gold Coast Poly winner Synergy In Motion likely leads again, there’s not much else! Peaking third run back from a break he stuck on well at the end of 1350m last start suggesting the step up in distance is exactly what he’s now chasing. (10) MISTING & (3) MR BUBBALUSKI both have get back/run on late patterns, not sure they will be suited by the possible lack of tempo however they need to be included on recent form. (4) PRINCE LEVI ran into all sorts of trouble last start over 2000m, back to 1615m the concern for me. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: APUNTAR TO WIN. RACE 5 Map all important in this race, in fact the early tactics are the big factor as there’s only a couple of runners on the map with on-paced patterns & should it turn out that way the backmarkers will have their work cut out. (4) FREE CARRY loves to lead, drawn out today likely won’t be a problem & with the big weight drop & 200m less to run he’s going to take some catching around here. (7) SMART LEGEND the other runner in the race who goes forward, only just prevailed last start however is another with a decent weight drop. (8) DEMON DARB drops 4.5kg off a thumping last start win, tempo may work against him here though? Numbers: 4 – 7 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: FREE CARRY TO WIN. RACE 6 Happy to be with the promising (15) LADY LUCIFER on an each-way basis in this race. She’s only lightly raced & we haven’t seen her since winning at the Sunshine Coast in the middle of last month. That made it 2 from 2 this prep & that latest was good as she sat wide throughout. Gate 1 sets up perfectly for (7) CERTAINLYCAN who likes to lead, drop back in distance is another positive. (1) ACTION KING draws to gain a nice run, freshened up the claim helps. Numbers: 15 – 7 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: LADY LUCIFER EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 7 Interesting runner in this race is the resuming (8) AUTUMNGIRL who put in a barnstorming finish to just miss on debut. Spelled she resumed with a comfortable win before failing here in January however she had a number of excuses suggesting we forgive that run completely. She trialled nicely here on Tuesday & has plenty of upside, happy to be in her corner unless a noted market drifter. (7) MOSCOW CIRCUS is racing well, will park up on speed again in a race not strong on tempo. (6) LA COMETA was luckless last start, (5) DATA SCRAMBLE will improve off the first up run when chasing a smart one home. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet: AUTUMNGIRL EACH-WAY RACE 8 Looks an ideal race for the consistent (5) THANKYOU HENRY to crack it for his first win this prep. Strong to the line two back he was then beaten fair & square the latest however the way he stuck with the winner all the way to the line gives me the impression he’s chasing further & he gets an additional 150m this afternoon. (2) READY FOR ANYTHING just missed in a feature race last start, keeps finding ways to get beaten of late however he’s going to break through soon. (4) CHIEF WITNESS is having a great campaign, looks the other main hope in the race. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet: THANKYOU HENRY TO WIN RACE 9 Thought (3) MISS JOELENE went up silly odds when first markets were released on Wednesday afternoon. She’s firmed a little however still looks outstanding value for a mare who has taken on far better company (running well) who holds a terrific fresh record & maps positively from the good gate, she also caught the eye late in her lead-up trial. (1) CIFRADO was thrashed in the King Of The Mountain, conditions that day were atrocious so forgive. The Gollan trained pair (12) SET TO SHINE & (9) WARBY can figure in the finish. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 12 – 9 Suggested Bet: MISS JOELENE EACH-WAY Market Market
