Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on October 24, 2024October 24, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Saturday racing at Doomben kicks off with a 1110m affair containing some promising types. I’m going with STREET CHASE who won well first up in midweek company before dropping back in distance the latest when doing his best work late. The step back to 1110m should suit although in a perfect world a little further would be ideal. ACRES AWAY has come back in very good order, does rise sharply at the weights here though. TALTARNI FIELDS is only lightly raced yet promising, can figure in the finish also. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet: STREET CHASE TO WIN ($2.50 or better). RACE 2 The 2yo’s step out here & with the majority on debut I’d suggest treading very wearily. BETTERLUCKNEXTTIME has the score on the board winning on debut when securing a good trip, no reason as to why that won’t be the case again here from the good draw & I’ll stick with him. CUDDLES FOR KIMMY the other runner with experience, won a trial by 5L prior to the debut win, definite danger. CANOODLING & LA BELLA BOOM perhaps best of the debutantes from the trials. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet: Monitor market leads with so many first starters. RACE 3 MOSZUR appeals here second run back from a break. Only lightly raced & in good hands she warmed up late first up at the end of 1350m & will appreciate the mile this time around. The booking of Callow is positive as he’s riding well & can hopefully make use of the good draw. EL PENSADOR has really found his mark in QLD, 3 starts for 2 wins & there were excuses at the defeat, has a strong finish & can take another step up in class. CASTILLIAN had every possible favour when an overdue winner last start, big weight & wide draw suggest that won’t be the case this time. Numbers: 5 – 11 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: MOSZUR EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Keen on the chances of NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY who impressed first up when a winner here 3 weeks ago. That was her first run back from a break & her third win at only 4 attempts with the loss being behind Cigar Flick at Eagle Farm in track record time. Sitting deep without cover she was still a mile too good for her rivals in the straight. Definite danger is the resuming MISS JOELENE who has tasted defeat only once when fresh, placed in the Roses & Oaks last season she’ll be very strong late. Don’t overlook MIDORI BEAUTY who looks big overs, excuses the latest, prior runs all good since returning from Hong Kong. Numbers: 12 – 11 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet: NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY TO WIN RACE 5 We just missed out with NEW JOY last week when running second & here she is a lot shorter in the market stepping up to 2000m. I’ll stick with her as she continues to race consistently & I don’t see the rise in trip causing any concern however confidence levels not so high. Going to throw the ‘roughie’ SLY CORNER in the mix, he’s up in grade however can find the line very strongly, is in career best form at present. TRIPLE MONEY & MAJORIAN both with chances. Numbers: 16 – 11 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet: box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Ton of speed engaged here which may set up a swooping finish from a backmarker, problem is there’s only a couple in the field on my map being SUPERALLOY and THE SUN DANCE. SUPERALLOY it is then & why not as he clearly has the best form line coming through a 3rd in the Sires Produce at Eagle Farm behind Broadsiding when we last saw him. Trialled well, look for him late. BOOMTOWN BOSS off the rails gate with Emily Lang’s claim has to be included, they will have options from there. COSMIC FIRE also has the Broadsiding form line albeit a well beaten one. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet: SUPERALLOY TO WIN (small bet). RACE 7 POETIC DRAMA looks a good chance here & should go around at a reasonable price. A strong closing winner first up she then was mathematically no hope at Eagle Farm in what was basically a trot & canter. She’s raced well here, 1600m suits & with luck in the straight from an inside draw she’ll be right in the finish. Like the way PIPISTRELLE is going & how could anyone not, very good two back before back to an easier race last start when bolting in, gate not ideal however wouldn’t be leaving out. FLASHING STEEL is racing well & can be included. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: POETIC DRAMA EACH-WAY. RACE 8 BEWS is an ex-Victorian from the Price/Kent Junior stable who comes to Queensland with a very good fresh record winning 2 of his 3 attempts, the defeat being a very narrow placing. Now with the Kendrick team on the Sunshine Coast he looked good winning a recent trial under no urgings in good time. BRENTWOOD can improve second-up, excuses first up gets Maloney & a good gate. METALART an improver, wide draw does make it awkward though. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: BEWS TO WIN. RACE 9 Interesting runner here is the newcomer to the Gollan stable here SALTAIRE who is ex John O’Shea in Sydney. She tends to get back in her races which isn’t ideal around here however her form lines are much stronger she gets in very well after Emily Lang’s claim. TIGER SHARK served it up to Wanda Rox first up, was just found wanting inside the final 100m, strips fitter. RUBIQUITOUS should again gain a stalking run tracking the leaders from his good gate. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 10 How open is this! I AM ARTIE has come up favourite shooting for his sixth win on the trot however once you get past him the market is very wide. I’m in no way bagging him however should we not get a ton of scratchings there looks good speed in the race & he’s an on paced type. I’m going with SHA OF GOMER each-way, he can be hard to catch however has struck some form of late & maps to gain a good run behind the speed. BLAKMAX in the mix as well, he also comes up with a favourable draw. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet: SHA OF GOMER EACH-WAY (small bet) Market Market
