Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on September 19, 2024September 19, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Another big day of racing at Randwick on dry ground kicks off with a mile Midway where I’m leaning the way of EL CASTELLO who was a tough winner first up from a break at Warwick Farm. That was only his fourth start & keep in mind he ran 2nd in the Listed Fernhill behind Broadsiding at his third start which is a handy form line for one of these races! FLYING BANDIT did close strongly last start, he was hard at it though. AMBASSADORS placed here this trip three starts back, returns to the 1600m today & can improve plenty on the latest. Numbers: 11 – 7 – 13 – 9 Suggested Bet: EL CASTELLO TO WIN (small bet). RACE 2 To the Highway where SHE’S EXOTIC will be well fancied by punters not only on form alone as the J. Mac factor will count for plenty. She’s 3 from 3 increasing her winning margins at each victory & she returns to the races today having narrowly won her lead-up trial when put under no pressure whatsoever. KREON the other big interest in the race, only defeat in 3 starts came about here in this grade when pulling up with issues, bounced back in a big way to bolt in at his next start. PERENNIAL next best, well drawn & resumes, unbeaten fresh to date. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet: SHE’S EXOTIC TO WIN (small bet). RACE 3 BEAR ON THE LOOSE will start short in this race, maybe too short? There’s certainly no value around him. I’m going wide & suggesting something each-way MISS YOU ELLA who was without luck two back before running on her latest again with little in her favour being held up until inside the final 200m. Up in grade yes, however a big weight drop helps offset that. BEAR ON THE LOOSE resumes, right stable & had excuses his latest, definitely hard to beat. ST LAWRENCE is never far away however he’s struggled to win of late. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: MISS YOU ELLA EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 4 Wide open looking race. I’ll go with the lightly raced & consistent WELL TIMED who is yet to miss a placing this time in & that includes a win here over 1200m when finding the line strongly. Drawn well he’s placed his only start out to this trip when working early. HOLLYWOOD HERO was good last start however not only has to deal with a wide gate he’ll have to again lump the big weight. NORTHERN EYES is flying, he too has to deal with a wide draw. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 5 – 14 Suggested Bet: WELL TIMES TO WIN (small bet). RACE 5 Very keen on the chances of ELIYASS in this Group 3 affair for the stayers. He’s an ex-French galloper with a strong overall record (8 from 10) & his two Australian starts have resulted in two wins with both being here at Randwick over todays 2000m trip. Drawn the pole he’ll park nice & handy. The other main fancy in the race CEOWULF only rises 100m off the last start win & comes up with a wide draw, he’ll have to go back & give the top pick a decent start you’d have to think. Liked ATHABASCAN’s first up finishing effort, will be looking for further now however still in the place mix. Numbers: 6 – 11 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet: ELIYASS TO WIN. RACE 6 Well, I’m a big SCARLET OAK fan & here she is resuming off what was a very impressive first campaign kicking off in New Zealand before heading to Sydney & then Brisbane for the winter all within 5 starts and amazingly she won at each of those venues. Looks a nice kick off point for her spring prep & she’ll spend nothing off the inside draw. TOM KITTEN was very good first up, he’ll go back from the wide draw & charge home, right in this hunt. GRINGOTTS was being spoken of as a lightweight Stradbroke chance after his Doomben win in May, ended up spelling returns here, wouldn’t underestimate. Numbers: 14 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: SCARLET OAK EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Cracking Group 2 Tea Rose where AUTUMN GLOW will take on MANAAL & ANEEMA who are very hard to split, there could be others ready to cause an upset, perhaps the Queenslander El Morzillo? Couldn’t help but be impressed with what AUTUMN GLOW has done in her two wins to date, she’ll enjoy the additional 100m however has to now step it up taking on these proven fillies particularly MANAAL who is a Group 1 winner. Surely the winner comes from the trio however as to which one well that’s the difficult part. I’ll lean to MANAAL as she has the score on the board & is a backable price. Should be a great watch! Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Sticking firmly with FANGIRL who certainly didn’t lose me when beaten first up in the Group 1 Winx Stakes. She just lost a little ground before the turn, had to come deep whereas the winner Via Sistina was able to save ground. I see her charging down the outside again in this race going after the likes of ROYAL PATRONAGE who was impressive on debut in Australia & ZOUGOTCHA & hopefully mowing them down over the final 100m. Should be another great watch! Numbers: 6 – 3 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet: FANGIRL TO WIN. RACE 9 I AM ME enjoyed a perfect run when resuming in the Concorde here a fortnight back & was able to get off the fence & dash clear, she held off her highly rated stablemate Bella Nipotina who was eating up the ground late. The additional 100m won’t worry her today & she again maps to score the run of the race. STEFI MAGNETICA will find this short of her best however she’s being touted as an Everest chance, should that be the case it’s only 100m shorter. PRIVATE EYE is a class act, he’s been done no favours by the draw though, will be going back. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: I AM ME TO WIN. RACE 10 I’m with the resuming WHINCHAT who holds a good fresh & overall record. Bolted in around this distance range when first up last campaign & he’s trialled up nicely scoring a recent comfortable win over a couple of classy types, will park up on speed from the good gate & prove tough to get past. KIBOU looks the obvious danger, also races up on the lead & didn’t have the best of luck at his latest. BATTLETON in the place mix. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet: WHINCHAT TO WIN.
