Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on August 9, 2024August 9, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CHEWING THE FAT finished second to One Above All in a maiden over 1400 and then third behind that same galloper and Cheddar Bob in a 1400m C1. Back to maiden grade, back to 1200m and drawn to get every chance. RUN RUPI RUN hasn’t been seen for 6 weeks. If he jumped cleanly he could lead this race and improve sharply. SHE HATES ME has been thereabouts and did finish third in the One Above All/Chewing The Fat race. BENFIN next best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – CHEWING THE FAT WIN RACE 2 DARE ME broke maiden status at Roebourne when beating subsequent winners Cheddar Bob, Viking Forever and One Above All. Has only raced twice since then finishing a narrow second to plunge winner Super Salsa and then again second behind Shooting Kontiki. Raced on the fresh side throughout the season and deserves to win another. PUSHOVER hasn’t raced for 63 days and attacks this fresh. Keep safe. VIKING FOREVER has been a bit hit and miss on the dirt. PRINCESSA ANJA has pads on which is a bit of a concern. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – DARE ME WIN RACE 3 ROCKING THE MERC won back to back races to start the season, a 56+ 1300 at Port Hedland and a 56+ 1400 at Roebourne. Has run another two minor placings since then including last start when splitting stablemate Kentucky Blue and in form Pike galloper Reginald. That looks the best form and Austin Galati goes back on. ONE ABOVE ALL has won his last two and now gets the services of travelling metro hoop Shaun McGruddy. Big respect. CHAVORIO and KENTUCKY DREAM have put in cheeky runs here and there recently. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – ROCKING THE MERC WIN RACE 4 THE CHIEF JUSTICE was on a jump and run mission last weekend at Carnarvon and it paid dividends. He was far too quick for them and ran decent time in the process. This race has a bit more depth but he’ll look to pour it on early in an attempt to lead. KENTUCKY BLUE was backed as if unbeatable last start and it was absolutely spot on. Bolted up to them a long way out. JACKEMJAMES broke the clock last start. He lead and went 10L faster than average first 700m. REGINALD comes back in distance as he looks to recapture some form. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – THE CHIEF JUSTICE WIN RACE 5 ARCHER COUNTY is out of the ridiculously fast Jackemjames race and drops back into a C3 from a 56+. Rises up in weight but he’s gone well with 60kg previously and he can work his way across into a prominent position close handy. Nice race for him if he can get across without burning too much fuel. QUILLOW has shades back on and McGruddy on. Obvious improver. SHOOTING KONTIKI and DENZOE are both likely to hold forward positions in running and both have enjoyed good solid deasons on the dirt. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ARCHER COUNTY WIN RACE 6 THE COOLAKIN KING didn’t look quite as comfortable at Roebourne as he did at Carnarvon but he still did the right thing by punters and fought them off late. There’s a fair bit of speed and pressure in this but it’s hard to fault the way he’s going. TORPEDOMAN bombed the start at Carnarvon and it was game over for him. His maiden win was off 7 days and if he jumps he’ll be a big improver. SIMPLY ROSSO a watch at his first start on the dirt. DE LOVELY LAD is loving dirt life. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – THE COOLAKIN KING WIN RACE 7 AWESOME CHATTER has found his feet on the dirt and won impressively at his last two outings. He now progresses from the Roebourne Cup to the Port Hedland Cup and the $60,000 on offer has Shaun McGruddy heading up to ride for Nadia Bishop. Has been a different horse since leading and expect he’ll be ridden with intent early. HEZAZEB never gave it away last start in the Roebourne Cup and kept coming under pressure. OUR NORMAN has had two runs on the grass in Perth and both have been handy efforts. ACERMETRIC is just starting to find his feet by the looks. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – AWESOME CHATTER WIN RACE 8 ESPIRITO, WAKAN TANKA and AMELIA’S BELIEF have all had excellent seasons respectively and clash in a highly competitive Richardson Sprint. Could have gone any of those three ways but thinking that back to 1200m that ESPIRITO might just have a very slight edge as he looks to turn the tables on WAKAN TANKA who proved last start that he isn’t just a Broome commodity. AMELIA’S BELIEF relished not having that pair in the race at Roebourne and was annihilated in betting. LUCKY LANDING attacks this fresh and drops 6.5kg in weight. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – ESPIRITO WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,6 FD 1,2,3 2,3,4 Market Market
