Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on June 13, 2024June 13, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Biggest day of racing on the Queensland calendar featuring 2 x Group 1’s takes place on a good track, bring it on! FREEDOM RALLY is first emergency for the Stradbroke trying to land a run in the Group 1. Should he miss out he’ll go around a well-supported favourite in this opening race & whilst I have him the top selection I wouldn’t be rushing into a short quote. IKNOWASTAR has a terrific strike rate & will roll forward here for Tim Clark, loves this trip, logical danger. COASTWATCH has been racing consistently & backs up off a tidy effort behind Yellow Brick here last Saturday. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet: FREEDOM RALLY TO WIN $2.50 or better. RACE 2 Going a little left of field here putting ENTERPRISE POMME on top however strictly on an each-way basis. She’s had 3 starts for the new yard settling off speed on each occasion which is a change of pattern. Two back she was very strong late before being held up the latest, she could be over the odds here. Wide draw for PEREILLE who is a model of consistency, bar a horror trip she looks the toughest to beat. MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO is also very consistent & comes off a last start victory in easier grade. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 10 – 12 Suggested Bet: ENTERPRISE POMME EACH-WAY. RACE 3 Open race, could have gone in a few different directions. Landed on TEHINA who sat on a hot speed at Canterbury, put the leader away half-way down the straight & then came clear to score by almost 3 lengths, that was a very good win. Has to step it up an additional 200m today, I’ll take the punt she can. DON’T FORGET JACK is 2 from 2 & showed a real ‘turn of foot’ winning a Doomben midweeker, the 1300m looks ideal for him. Victorian visitor HEINOUS was dominant last start at 1000m, form is consistent however 1300m may test? Numbers: 13 – 8 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 The two-mile Brisbane Cup may find a few out once they hit the straight. Not so the Victorian visitor MOSTLY CLOUDY who zoomed home to beat all bar the winner in the 2800m Andrew Ramsden at Flemington last start. A winner up to 3318m overseas, well weighted & with Blake Shinn to steer he can go one better. AMADE can miss the start, who can forget Zac Spain’s heroics on him in the Adelaide Cup, he’s a last start winner landing the Sandown Cup & the main danger. ALEGRON looks to be building nicely. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet: MOSTLY CLOUDY TO WIN. RACE 5 I’m tipping a big day for James Cummings & it could begin right here with the very consistent RAZORS who beat all bar the winner in the Queensland Guineas before dropping in distance & having no luck whatsoever last start when held-up in the straight. Back to the mile with J. Mac to ride from a good gate he looks very hard to beat. BASES LOADED continues to improve off the long break, can place here. INVINCIBLE SPY & GERIATRIX are both racing well & can be included in exotics. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet: RAZORS TO WIN. RACE 6 First of the Group 1’s is the J J Atkins for the 2yo’s & I get the feeling we’re looking at a very special horse here in BROADSIDING who was so dominant from the back zooming home to land the Sires Produce a couple of weeks back. The speed was on which helped suggesting he needs the mile which he gets today, keep in mind he won the Group 1 Champagne three back over the same trip. ZOUNA is very honest, sat wide in the Sires & stayed on well for second, can do so once again. SMASHING TIME & BITTERCREEK in the mix. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet: BROADSIDING TO WIN. RACE 7 Found this race very difficult to sort. The inclusion of CHINNY BOOM to run here rather than in Race 2 has helped though & I’m happy to lean her way off that very solid last start victory. She had everything to suit that day & whilst the going will be firmer this time she will once again go forward in a race with little speed on paper. COUER VOLANTE was good running on in the same race, is this far enough for her though? BANANA QUEEN & COMRADE ROSA (drier track suits) are also definite chances. Numbers: 9 – 6 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 The Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap is Queensland’s premier race & this year’s version looks a very open one. I’ve settled on the Moreton Cup winner form last week VILANA who was so impressive letting down with an impressive turn of foot. He’s often been maligned however now a gelding he’s been nothing but honest all 3 runs since the operation. Sitting around midfield with cover I’m expecting him to let down big time in the straight. STEFI MAGNETICA is the weight horse, she just needs luck or cover to figure in the finish. BELLA NIPOTINA is the class act whilst the local hope ANTINO has been primed for this, him winning would be a great result for our leading trainer. Numbers: 6 – 17 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: VILANA EACH-WAY. RACE 9 The better chances in this race come out of the Doomben Cup which was won by BOIS D’ARGENT on wet ground. It certainly won’t be wet today & I’m with the eye catcher in that race which was FAWKNER PARK who was closing rapidly into 3rd spot beaten less than half a length. Such a consistent horse the 2200m is ideal & he looks very hard to beat. I tipped VOW AND DECLARE in the Doomben Cup however he just paddled in the going, back on top of the ground look for sharp improvement & at likely good odds. KOVALICA can figure however he’s just about emptied the punters pockets by now, very costly. Numbers: 15 – 8 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet: FAWKNER PARK TO WIN. Market Market
