Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on March 1, 2024March 7, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Cracking day of racing coming up & we kick it all off with an 1100m Midway which looks very open. Going to lean to MAD DARCEY who has come back to racing in good order winning & placing at her two starts this time in. The placing came here last start over 1000m when running on strongly late, she doesn’t win out of turn however is rarely far away. MOONLIGHT GRACE resumes with a good fresh record, bolted in when first up at Hawkesbury last prep. MARTIAL MUSIC draws the pole & was a winner this grade when resuming, second up record nowhere near as good though. Numbers: 14 – 7 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 OUR KOBISON & TINTOOKIE have met twice this prep with the score at one win each. This time around the latter is much better off at the weights although not drawn as well, she may end up with the last crack though. No doubt OUR KOBISON is flying this prep, gate 1 & J. Mac both big plusses. Interesting runner is MORAVIA who may end up just blowing the lot of these away, comes out of much stronger races, last 5 have been at Group level placing twice (Group 2/3). Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 3 ONCE AGAIN MY GIRL looks tough to beat here. Only lightly raced she beat all bar Derry Grove this track & trip first up last prep & that horse has continued to race very well in stronger company. Second up beaten as a long odds-on favourite she bled & hasn’t been seen since bar winning a recent Scone trial. No knock on PERENNIAL who is unbeaten, all wins have been with authority. COMPELLING TRUTH is flying however has to deal with a wide gate. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: ONCE AGAIN MY GIRL TO WIN (if not a decent market drifter) RACE 4 Well this won’t take long! STORM BOY is the clear Golden Slipper favourite & will go around in this race a very, very short priced favourite. Recently sold for plenty he’s eyeing off the 2yo Triple Crown which is no easy task, his Magic Millions win & recent trial suggest he’s one right out of the box though & I’ll be very excited to see how he performs here. PROST & PARKOUR appear the best chance to run the placings. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet: STORM BOY will be too short/take him to win with 3 & 4 in exotics. RACE 5 Looking to back two runners here being the in form REDSTONE WELL & the longer priced ETNA ROSSO. Both come out of the same last start race at this BM88 level with REDSTONE WELL proving too strong over the latter stages, two runs at 1600m suggest he’s now definitely looking for further which he gets this afternoon. ETNA ROSSO was an eye catcher from the back of the field running on, he will lap up the 2000m. MIRACLE SPIN can improve, although may need a little luck from the rails gate. Numbers: 1 – 14 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: REDSTONE WELL TO WIN/ETNA ROSSO EACH-WAY. RACE 6 The Sweet Embrace for the fillies looks very suitable for MANAAL who won the Gimcrack on debut before resuming in a fast run Widden at Rosehill a month back running on into second spot behind the very smart Lady Of Camelot who ran so well in the Blue Diamond last Saturday. The step to 1200m suits & she draws well. Absolutely no knock on CASTANYA who has been strong to the line both runs & has Switzerland formlines. FLY FLY not hopeless, may need some luck from the wide alley though. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 11 – 7 Suggested Bet: MANAAL TO WIN. RACE 7 FANGIRL will start short odds in the Group 1 & it’s hard to see her being beaten. Absolutely bolted in the Apollo first up never out of first, maybe second gear just rounding up her rivals from the back of the field strolling down the outside, expect more of the same today. Stablemate BUCKAROO had little luck in the same race & should have finished closer, can definitely fill a placing. THINK IT OVER & CASCADIAN (never clear first up) also in the exotics mix. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: FANGIRL TO WIN (obvious)/1, 2 & 4 to run first four. RACE 8 Crack field of fillies to go around in the Group 1 Surround. KIMOCHI has gone up better than each-way odds & to me that looks a bet to nothing, really couldn’t see her finishing out of the placings, something she’s yet to do at her 10 starts. First up winner, she’s proven out to 1400m (many aren’t) & draws ok. Confident MAKARENA will run it out strongly, just has to deal with a wide draw, Tim Clark will have decisions to make early on. Can’t leave out TROPICAL SQUALL who likely leads. No knock 4, 5 or 12 either, just can’t fit them all in! Numbers: 3 – 8 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: KIMOCHI EACH-WAY. RACE 9 OLENTIA looks a ‘good thing’ in this race. Without doubt should have won first up if not for being badly held up in the straight, clear late she wound up well however ran out of ground. Her second up record is a good one as is her strike rate, hard to see any of these worrying her to be honest. Can’t catch HINGED at all, on her best she’d be some chance. DUAIS could run into a placing without surprising. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet: OLENTIA TO WIN. RACE 10 Coal Crusher & Winchat the speed in this closing race & they both draw out. There’s not much wrong with HARD TO SAY’s form & he does appear very well placed here from the inside draw. He could well find himself in the right spot just tagging the speed & with no weight on the back he’s going to be strong late. KOVALICA is well in the market although on paper this appears too short, I’m always wary as we know how good he is. Keen to see how the import NEW ENERGY shapes up, in good hands & has jumped out well. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 2 – 13 Suggested Bet: HARD TO SAY EACH-WAY Market Market
