Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on February 1, 2024February 1, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 The afternoon kicks off with a 2yo affair which features a bunch of locals taking on the might of the Snowden stable who have shipped up the first starter WHISKEY. Both trials suggest he has ability & he wouldn’t need a lot of it to handle these. ENTERPRISE DEFENCE ran home well on debut here over 1200m, might be looking for further now however can still figure in the finish. LADY BOSSA NOVA can keep improving. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet: WHISKEY TO WIN RACE 2 Found this very tough. SOOBLOND is very consistent however her winning strike rate is far from enviable. A winner only once she’s managed 13 placings along the way & looks well placed here, couldn’t possibly back her straight out though! SHE’S A ROGUE has the right form, placed at Group level she can really mix it up though, her best wins this if she brings it? No fresh form for SURREAL ASCOT however she is well fancied in early markets & if that support continues should be included. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 The lightly raced ARTFUL GIRL has really hit her straps since being stepped up in distance. Her last start Doomben win was that of a mare who is in top form & ready to tackle something stronger which she does today, the additional 100m or so doesn’t look like it will harm her chances one bit. AIN’T HE GRAND parks closer to the lead from the better draw, ready to win, main danger. DEMARCAY in the mix, beaten by ARTFUL GIRL last start can’t see him turning the tables though. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet: ARTFUL GIRL TO WIN. RACE 4 I’ve got FLEUR DU MONDE on top however wouldn’t be taking anything under around $4.00 as my gut feel is she’s very one paced & looking for further. However, she doesn’t strike a strong bunch of rivals today & gets a significant weight drop off that last start placing when just a little one paced at the end of 1805m. KORUTO continues to race well & gets a good draw plus 3kg off. CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE beat many of these last start, he won’t be far away again now he’s struck form. MASCARAT may need one more? Betting will be our best guide. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Really like the look of the lightly raced CAPTAIN FENKEL who I’m confident can step up from maiden to Saturday grade in one fell swoop! He stuck to his guns well on debut at Ipswich chasing the winner home right to the line before romping in at Doomben last start when stepped up to 1350m, 1400m on the bigger track looks ideal. JEALOUS shows good potential as well, overhauled the leader in good style to win at the Sunshine Coast, ditto track & trip, both ticks. SMART RECOGNITION can give a sight, he might just feel the pinch late down this long straight. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: CAPTAIN FENKEL TO WIN RACE 6 Winning form is good form & that’s exactly what the Gold Coast mare LENNIC has. She’s yet to put in a bad run at her 5 outings to date & if not for being held up three starts back would be looking at four straight this afternoon. Good alley, she’ll settle on speed & will take some getting past. Once I get away from her I find the others very difficult to sort, BARISTASISTA is capable on her day, HIDDEN EYES had no luck last start, big odds here is worth throwing into exotics. Numbers: 13 – 9 – 8 – 12 Suggested Bet: LENNIC TO WIN RACE 7 Leaning to the Toowoomba trained MASTER MAURICE in what is a tough race. He maps to land a perfect run & the way he’s been finding the line of late the additional 200m looks very suitable. BRENTWOOD has gone up favourite in early markets, his first up win was a good one however his second-up record isn’t as impressive & he might be going around ‘unders’. Thought BROCKY would prove hard to beat at the Gold Coast, he just gave away too much start there, definitely in this. Numbers: 15 – 5 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet: MASTER MAURICE EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Like the way the lightly raced BELVEDERE BOYS is going. Yet to finish out of the placings at all 4 starts (includes 2 wins) he resumed with a midweek victory at Doomben sitting off speed which is his usual pattern before dashing past the leaders & coming clear to score comfortably. Yes, he’ll go back again here from the wide draw however gets an additional 200m in his favour. AFRICAN DAISY has good Sydney Saturday form, beaten by a smart one last start. OCEAN ZAR will be running on. Numbers: 9 – 11 – 13 – 5 Suggested Bet: BELVEDERE BOYS EACH-WAY. RACE 9 SHOPPING ESPRIT caught the eye first up in The Buffering running on late from well back in the field. Second up he was well in the market & his effort to clock in 3rd was a good one considering the leader/winner Freedom Rally got away with murder in front setting very soft sectionals. He can go close with a stronger tempo this time around. WITHOUT REVENGE led throughout to win the Ballina Cup, leads again here & if not attacked will take getting past once again. JETTY ran a cracking race last week at the Sunshine Coast, chance if he’s recovered from that wide effort. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: SHOPPING ESPRIT TO WIN. RACE 10 The very reliable combination of Kelly Schweida & Jimmy Orman get the nod in this final race with DAYTONA BAY being the top selection. He’s an ex-Victorian who ran well at his first local outing closing from the back of the field to beat all bar the winner here a fortnight back. Step up in distance is ideal, will take some holding out. Can’t catch EMPEROR, jumped off last start up to 1200m & home he went, now 1400m? REDWOOD SHADOW next best. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet: DAYTONA BAY TO WIN. Market Market
