Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on January 25, 2024January 25, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Big field to go around in the opener with plenty of debutantes having come through the trials. Confident the winner will be unraced; DEPUTIZE & SWITZERLAND look the best of those & both have drawn well. The former beat the latter home in a recent heat racing up on the lead whereas SWITZERLAND settled well back & ran on closing the gap under no pressure, going to bank on the Snitzel colt parking closer today from the good gate. Nothing wrong with RUSSIAN ROULETTE’S trials winning both, he’s in the right yard however from that wide gate his task will be a tough one. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet: SWITZERLAND TO WIN (small bet). RACE 2 Not keen on this week’s Midway, just can’t land on any runner with confidence. BLUFF ‘N’ BLUSTER hasn’t been too bad his last couple this grade could be worth a very small each-way investment. OLYMPIC THEATRE finds a suitable race stepping up from midweek grade, draws well. JUMERIAH BEACH always a chance however he’s had his opportunities of late. Numbers: 12 – 6 – 2 – 13 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Leaning to SWIFT CHARM in this week’s Midway. He ran a nice race first up at Rosehill finding the line strongly over 1100m, gets an additional 100m this afternoon, is already a second up winner & should gain an economical run from the inside draw, with room to move in the straight lookout late. The consistent BLOW DART has to be in the mix again, he’s consistent alright however it’s without winning. 2, 13 & 16 all in exotics calculations. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 2 – 16 Suggested Bet: SWIFT CHARM EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 4 Interesting race. Stablemates HELLSING & REDSTONE WELL are imports who have had one outing in the country running on late in the same race which was run at strong speed, they will appreciate the additional 200m. STONECOAT led first up when folding like a deck of cards, didn’t enjoy the softest run by the same token & no doubt improves here with what maps as a soft lead. GLORY DAZE was ridden forward last start beating all bar the winner when fresh, down in grade however a big rise in weight. Suggest we box them all up! Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Yet another very even race, there’s nothing between many/most of these. I’ve settled on AMATI who will have to improve however she’s likely to do so third up from a break, she went around in stronger races last prep & draws to gain a good run. CADETSHIP could easily bob up, another with a good gate. MALABAR has to deal with a wide gate however some of these are a risk at this stage of their prep over a mile, he’s not. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Sticking with last start winner LOUISVILLE to go back-to-back! Closer in the run courtesy of a better draw last start he was able to land the money, stepping up further to 2000m here looks very suitable. FLOATING chased him home in that race & was unlucky not to win, wouldn’t say she’s the most honest mare going around however she can figure if in the mood & does have form out to the longer trip whereas it’s all new for LOUISVILLE. ARISTONOUS deserves another chance. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: LOUISVILLE TO WIN. RACE 7 The Listed Carrington is the days feature. Real test for FELIX MAJESTIC who has been in very good form of late winning & placing his past couple. The latest was when taken on in a ridiculously fast run race, his effort to hold on & be beaten just over a length was outstanding. Yes, this is much harder however he draws the pole, sits on speed & gets plenty of weight off his better credentialled rivals. UCALLEDIT can produce a big run fresh, trialling well. The classy TAMERLANE must overcome a wide gate. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: FELIX MAJESTIC TO WIN (small bet) RACE 8 Super competitive race could go a number of different ways. UNION ARMY was good last start winning from back in the field, that’s his go though, he misses the kick, settles back & then needs luck which he did get plenty of last time. LEGIO TEN was a big winner first up, second up gave away a big start & although ran on again was never a winning chance, big weight here. SO GOOD SO COOL looks close, BOSTON ROCKS gets the right run. Where to look! Numbers: 10 – 3 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Thought HIGH BLUE SEA did a terrific job to win first up off a long break at Rosehill a fortnight back. Well off speed he knuckled down & went right over the leaders to score running away, unbeaten second up to date. AFRICAN DAISY ran a nice race first up & looks well placed off the good draw, definite winning chance. GRACILISTYLA always in the place mix. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: HIGH BLUE SEA TO WIN RACE 10 JUNQUIERA should be able to finish the day on a winning note. She’s racing in good form winning & placing within 7 days over the Magic Millions carnival on the Gold Coast, the win was dominant, the defeat wasn’t helped by a slow start. EITHER OAR is racing well, the claim should help here. Surely WAVERIDER BUOY improves, she hasn’t hit her straps this prep however could do so at any stage. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: JUNQUIERA TO WIN Market Market
