Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on November 9, 2023November 9, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 We open the day with another Mishani Vs the rest 2yo affair with the Les Ross team supplying 6 of the 9 acceptors, anything is possible! I’ll lean to the consistent HEAD HONCHO who looked the winner here a fortnight ago only to be run over by MISHANI ECLIPSE right on the wire. They did run home very slowly with all of the pace being in the first part of the race where HEAD HONCHO was, the winner had the final crack. HEAD CASE has trialled well, wide draw no help though. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: HEAD HONCHO EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 2 The lightly raced GOBLIN’ DE QUO resumes here without any ‘official’ trials. The market will tell us if she’s ready to go & I really hope she is, her form last prep was solid in stronger races & she maps to either lead or trail here with no weight on her back. BEAST MODE draws poorly with the big weight, will need things to pan out & if they do he’ll be there at the business end. MR GALAZI is quick, he’ll likely have company here though & pressure to match. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: GOBLIN’ DE QUO TO WIN (if not a market drifter) RACE 3 Looks the right race for the second up MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO who sat on the speed in a solidly run affair here two weeks ago when run down over the concluding stages. That was stronger race, he strips fitter & although up in weight should still prove the one to beat. STROLL didn’t fire last prep however she was far from disgraced & they were all strong races, recent trial was good behind the likes of Zarastro & co. I’d expect COMPASSIONATE to race closer & MORETON BAY isn’t hopeless. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet: MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO TO WIN RACE 4 We’re looking at something around a genuine tempo here which should be enough to get the very consistent MONTABOT back into the winner’s circle. Too far back at Ipswich two runs back he flashed home before running on from last his latest missing out narrowly. The step to 2000m is a plus & Ryan Maloney should have him a little closer from the inside gate. FLYING JOY closed off strongly last start at this trip, no weight once again she can figure in the finish. Well, he almost got home last week FIFTH POSITION, gets another chance… if you’re game! Numbers: 6 – 9 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: MONTABOT EACH-WAY RACE 5 VICTORY WIN has come up very short, impressive winning last start however taking red figures doesn’t appeal. I’ll go with the consistent ADDRIEL who has placed both runs this prep here & Eagle Farm, he does tend to race off speed which isn’t ideal however he can find the line & the small field here should suit that pattern. VICTORY WIN overcame the slow start to win at the Sunshine Coast, what did he beat though? Surely he doesn’t deserve to be that short? WITHIN REASON in the mix as well. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: ADDRIEL TO WIN RACE 6 Open race, PENTITO closed strongly late first up running into a placing, he’s a second up winner in the past, will appreciate the additional 150m & draws a gate where he can find a spot not too far back. BLAKMAX accepted for a couple of races today, connections have decided to head to this one which is the smart move as he’s proven over the trip. LARRIKIN ROGUE closed well late fresh, 1350m suits not so sure about the wide gate though, suggests he’ll give away a decent start. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: PENTITO EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 7 Taking a punt on the second up GOOMERI who was sent out a short-priced favourite first up in midweek company however he just didn’t let down in the straight. His previous form & trial had been good however both wins had come on soft ground, he may well be a wet tracker only & if that’s the case he won’t be winning this however with the blinkers on I’ll stick. Stablemate ORIENT’S SECRET won well first up, definite respect, AMORE VELOCE raced tight down the straight when a narrow second here recently, right in the mix. Numbers: 12 – 7 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet: GOOMERI (small bet) RACE 8 Feature race of the day for the open sprinters where ZARASTRO faces his acid test having had the four starts for Tony Gollan winning the past three from the front flying along & keeping going right to the line. Obviously this is harder however his recent trial at Deagon just cruising home suggests he’s fit, well & right up to the task. ZOUSHACK at a price can run well, made good ground first up & will be suited out to this longer trip. STEADY READY on speed will be in it for a fair way, could even lead ZARASTRO? Will he be there at the business end though? Numbers: 10 – 8 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet: ZARASTRO TO WIN RACE 9 TIDAL CREEK is the obvious selection on form here however he hasn’t raced for 6 weeks & there’s no ‘official’ trials next to his name. The market will be our guide to his fitness levels however on paper he’s the clear top selection, hope he’s fit! DUKE OF BUCKINGHAM should be fitter third run back from a break, can improve off the good draw. TYRESA not hopeless if she could just jump on terms! Numbers: 1 – 7 – 11 – 4 Suggested Bet: TIDAL CREEK TO WIN (If solid in the market) RACE 10 STARZAM appeals here on an each-way basis. He races best at the beginning of his preps which was the case first up at Ipswich recently when charging right past the leaders late to score running away. Poor gate for the very consistent SHA OF GOMER however he’s also versatile, he’ll go back & try to swoop down the outside, it’s not impossible. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 15 – 13 Suggested Bet: STARZAM EACH-WAY Market Market
