Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 22, 2023August 22, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HEMLOCK STONE was posted out deep in the three wide line on debut over 1300m at Northam. There were two 1300m maidens that day and the one behind Lord Vampi was ~6L faster so happy to follow that through as the form reference. Draws better at his second outing, gains the services of William Pike and should enjoy a soft run behind the speed. SCENERY continues to get back and run on. He’s knocking on the door and racing consistently well but seems to always find one better on the day. IDENTIFIER trialled like she wants at least 1400m. Yard is unstoppable. WARRALEA LASS gets down to only 53.5kg as a filly taking on the older horses. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 10 – 12 Suggested Bet – HEMLOCK STONE WIN RACE 2 STORMCHASER chased hard on debut behind undefeated filly Wubin Gold. He then worked forward to the breeze stepping into a Saturday and again was no match for that same filly. Don’t think he was overly suited breezing and gets a chance here to tuck in behind the speed and enjoy a soft run with cover. Open race with many chances. CHOIXWAY was able to breeze outside popular favourite Hot Nova on debut and was far too strong for her. Looks a real trier. DIALLING ran well in his initial preparation and ran into a sharp one at trails in Made In Mexico. GRACE ROSE hit the line well behind Hymns Of Eladdair who has gone on with it since. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – STORMCHASER WIN RACE 3 LITTLE STRAWBERRY ran second to Comic Hero at her WA debut before knocking off Esprit Garcon down the straight. Since then she’s finished second to Final Authority and then third to Storm Commander and subsequent 66+ winner Swim Through in 60+ Graduation company. Jumps off the page dropping back into a C1 and with Taj Dyson’s claim she stays at a winnable weight. ESTIMATOR hasn’t had the best of luck since his impressive debut win over Military Power. Freshened and comes across to park over the speed. EYESHADOW continues to go well. She’ll get a very similar run from the draw. QUINDANDINO was an eye-catching ride and win at Northam last start. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – LITTLE STRAWBERRY WIN RACE 4 YARRALEA is about as honest and consistent as they come. She’s been up for a long time and continues to race well. Two starts ago she finished half a length off Success Play who has since run well again behind Split Jete. Gets an ideal run from a favourable draw, runs for Victoria Corver and with only 54.5kg on her back she should be right in the mix again. STARCHIENNE went to a new level last preparation. Was placed to perfection winning a Mt Barker maiden, a Belmont C1, a Geraldton 58+ and then an Ascot C3. Trialled super and is a big danger. COUNT THE SESSIONS is not an easy horse to catch but he produced his best last start and won impressively. ACERMETRIC is always there abouts. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – YARRALEA EACHWAY RACE 5 FLASH MAX is looking to go three from three and remain undefeated. Very few horses go straight from a maiden into a C1 and win again with more weight but he was able to defy that trend and the market fully expected the outcome (mountains and mountains of money poured in for him in the last 5 minutes of betting). Looks extremely progressive. FOREVER CLASSIC can definitely give him something to catch, especially if she was able to work her way to the top like she did two starts when winning this track/grade. CENTRAL FORCE trialled nicely and is usually there abouts. COCOON BAY is better than she showed fresh. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – FLASH MAX WIN RACE 6 LORD VAMPI is still very new and very green but he gives every indication he’ll keep improving with racing and as the distances increase. Straight out to 1650m and up into a C3 but strikes a field where a number of rivals have a lot of convictions and on paper a race without a lot of depth. He’ll be winning nice races in the future. MAMA TEMBU is one from 23 which pretty much sums up her career. She should have won more races but she seems to find bad luck wherever she goes. MASTER ALEX is looking to win a third straight race and the form through Jelly Can Run has certainly been franked. KOLCHINO has quirks but ability. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – LORD VAMPI WIN RACE 7 NIIGATA is the kind of mare who could improve noticeably on a drying surface. She has a woeful wet track record and has been spinning the wheels a lot of late. The main fancies all come through the Villeins race and thought considering she was held up on straightening she was a chance at odds in what looks a raffle to end the program. DANCE OF THE SOUTH will roll forward and stay out of trouble. Reuintes with Bradley Parnham who clearly gets the best out of her. PAIGEY’S TURN has more than measured up in her last three outings at Saturday level and this looks a great opportunity for her. OLDEN was a big improver last week. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – NIIGATA EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,6,7,8 2,5 2,5,6 1,2,4,5,6,8 Market Market
