Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on July 21, 2023July 21, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Liked the look of the O’Dea/Hoysted trained debutante RICH MINX who has only been to the trials once for a very impressive Deagon victory earlier this month. She showed good speed & never looked like being run down at any stage going to the line with plenty in hand & clocking good time. Logical danger appears to be the Sydney trained STAR ACT who draws well & comes off a last start Canterbury second, improving filly who should be right at her peak. CRIMSON WARNING draws well & had good form last prep, forgive the latest when never on the track. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: RICH MINX TO WIN (follow market support) RACE 2 CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE is the obvious here however these distance races can provide left field results suggesting it’s tough to label him a ‘good thing’. He’s in peak form, rises nothing in weight & should land a good run from the ideal draw. Big drop in grade for TONY BE which he likely needs as he hasn’t been firing in Sydney, he’s right in it even perhaps better than these when on song. SHEZADANDI ex Victoria (Greg Eurell) lines up for a new local yard, definite market watch. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 14 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 3 Very hard to tip against ATLANTIC EAGLE who won here 2 weeks ago rising 600m in trip to run down Carbonetti near the line. That galloper then came out & led all of the way to score at Eagle Farm last Saturday strengthening the formline. She’s obviously fitter & drops plenty in weight for this tougher assignment which she appears well up to. The Waller pair STARDOME & OTYRAR appear the main threats. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: ATLANTIC EAGLE TO WIN (no shorter than $3) RACE 4 Find it hard to split RELIABLE RUBY & INASEC in this race suggesting if the odds are in our favour backing both may be the best way out. RELIABLE RUBY brings the stronger formlines & draws best on paper however she is a get back mare who will need luck around here if cluttered up. INASEC draws wide however the map suggests there’s not much pace in the race, I’d say Angela Jones will push the button early & slide over parking in the first couple. FIELD WIRI a good winner last time out should still have improvement to come fourth up. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet: Backing top two selections should market allow RACE 5 Going for value here with the third up Toowoomba mare AQUA ALTA. Fair to say she had every chance here second up a fortnight back however may have been one run short? She draws well today, will again settle on speed & does drop 3kg down to the limit weight. SELEQUE is getting very close, goes the other way in weight though. The Gollan pair ASHGROVE & LOVE SENSATION right in the hunt, the former perhaps needs one more whilst the latter has become a more consistent mare. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: AQUA ALTA (small bet each-way) RACE 6 Plenty of speed engaged on paper & I’m going with one who will likely be right up amongst it in VODKA MARTINI who backs up off the good effort last Saturday beating all bar the highly promising Freedom Rally. Drawn ideally there will be an option to ease & park behind, we have seen him win from just off speed in the past, certainly not a lead at all costs type. SIMBU will settle off pace & have the last crack, he’s come back very well. No knock on the unbeaten MATILLY bar the wide draw, she could end up nearer the outside rail than inside. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet: VODKA MARTINI TO WIN RACE 7 Tough race. One thing I do know is that I can’t have Orbisyn from that wide draw. READY FOR ANYTHING won well first up at Eagle Farm coming through between runners before racing clear to the line. He has won second up & I like him kept on the fresh side with that win coming late last month. RALPHIE was a complete forgive last start, form prior very consistent, don’t see the rails gate being a plus for him he will need luck. UNCLE RUSS a sneaky good effort last start draws favourably. Numbers: 12 – 11 – 16 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 8 I’ll back one at long odds here & one at not so long! ASTERO is the shorter of the pair coming off an unlucky effort at Randwick two weeks back when far from having a clear run down the straight. Perfect alley today if able to get through at the business end look out. BONAPARTE is the longshot, resumes with a good fresh record, no trial leading in which may well be all part of the plan! Betting leads will be a good guide to his chances. ROMAN AUREUS back in trip off the Rocky win & the ever-consistent SALATEEN both well in contention. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: Backing top two selections RACE 9 RELEASE THE BEANS looks hard to beat here & can round out the day on a successful note. Two runs back from a break both good & I like him rising to 1350m a trip he has won over on this track. GAIUS had every possible chance last week, not sure the drop back in distance is ideal however racing very honestly & if gains a start should be included. HOKAHEY will be flashing home from the back, just how much start will he give away though? Numbers: 9 – 20 – 15 – 10 Suggested Bet: RELEASE THE BEANS TO WIN Market Market
