Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on July 2, 2023July 2, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CALL IT A LOAN and THE BIG ONE both come through the same 1100m maiden at Northam. They’re both coming to Kalgoorlie second-up and couldn’t have asked for a more winnable race. CALL IT A LOAN sat second in running tracking THE BIG ONE and beat him home to the tune of 2L. On that alone it should make him hard to beat. THE BIG ONE was scratched from Thursday at Northam to save for this. He’s shown a lot of ability and run some massive races – just struggling to pinch one. EBONY’S ACE stays in Kal and is quick. May look to lead them running. TREBLE MAKER ran well against the older horses last start. 53.5kg tick. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – CALL IT A LOAN WIN RACE 2 MORE LIKELY ran third over 1500m at only his second career outing beaten 2.8L by Wicked Cool and Coventry Reef. Coventry Reef backed up on Thursday at Northam and ran second to Black For Cash in a driving finish. That has to be the strongest form reference and from the draw he should get every chance. DUKE I AM whacked away on pace last start and now has a set of shades added. EXALTED ROCKSTAR went to Kalgoorlie last start and finished 4L off Heavenly Miss. Has to turn the tables on Duke I Am. DIAMOND SAPPHIRE hasn’t had much luck in Perth. Dry track a plus. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – MORE LIKELY WIN RACE 3 LAUGHING BUDDHA was coming out of a very weak maiden into a C2 1620 last start. Thought he ran a ripper from a long way back and has enough versatility to take up a position. May have under-estimated him, he was as good as anything in that event in replay. FREE SOLO and DANCING JACK are both frustrating animals. They’ve got poor race patterns which often see them get back, flash home and just leave themselves too much to do late. Small field helps the pair. FRIAR THE GUN was running handy races in the metro/provincial area. Keep safe. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – LAUGHING BUDDHA WIN RACE 4 HOLE IN ONE has been popular in this preview over recent months and see no reason why he can’t keep making his way through the grades on the Goldfields. He steps up now into a 58+ but he retains the services of CJP and he’s drawn to get every chance with only 55.5kg on his back. Stablemate hard to run down but he’s going super. LOVE DRUNK BABY was too quick for them at his return to the races. After the Gaerth claim he’ll be tough to get past again. TOTAL LOCKDOWN was plunged in betting over 1400m. The money missed and now he comes back to 1100m. FAIR JUSTICE runs home late. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – HOLE IN ONE WIN RACE 5 HIDDEN RUBY has run into stablemates like Hole In One and Princess Chunk over recent meetings and there’s nothing wrong with that form, even in defeat. The barrier draw hurts but she’s got enough early tactical speed to get across and try to find a spot. You’d think Plan A is to follow the stablemate across and eye off the breeze. HONEST LEGEND is drawn underneath of her and has 61.5kg. Strong win last start but the weight is an ask. MAIDMY WAY has really come of age. Last two starts strong and now has Michael Poy back on. THE CHIEF JUSTICE can park in behind them and enjoy a good run. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – HIDDEN RUBY WIN RACE 6 GLUTEN FREE is back to somewhere near his best and more importantly he’s racing with great consistency again. 61kg is an ask in terms of weight carrying at a mile but he should be able to roll forward and park just behind Deel Red and enjoy an economical run into the race. Most of his main dangers are back-markers. STRATOCREED hasn’t won a race for a long time but now that Joanne Forest can sneak him back into 58+ races he looks like pinching another one soon. Big run last start. BILL THE BEE was below his best last start. DAWN ENIGMA won well and is drawn soft. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – GLUTEN FREE WIN RACE 7 GALAXY AFFAIR chased hard last start behind Nurhaci. There was almost 2L back to Men’s Club in third ahead of rivals Kakadu, Semigel and Nicklaus. With Nurhaci heading to town and Men’s Club not stepping out to 1400m he looks to get a great opportunity from the perfect alley. FREEDOM SQUARE has his first start in WA for Helen Harding. He’s the winner of a Highway at Gosford at 1200m first-up off 160 days and his trial at Kalgorlie (even though only a 2 horse trial) looked good. Keep very safe. JAG THE JOKER won well and normally holds form. KICK A GOAL SON is suited to these c70+ races. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – GALAXY AFFAIR WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,4,5 1,3,5 1,2,3,6,8 1,2,3,5,8 Market Market
