Scott Embry’s Saturday Albany Preview Posted on January 27, 2023January 27, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LET HER BOOGIE went from an 1100 to a 1500 last start and ran particularly well at aprice when second to the stablemate Gift Of The Heart. That run should bring her on a long way and if she can overcome a tricky alley looks to have found a winnable maiden without any real standouts. WHO BY FIRE is hitting the line hard and the way he’s been racing suggests that a step out to a mile is exactly what he’s wanting. GRECE LIGHTNING will find this a lot easier than the provincial maidens. Tash Faithfull’s booking an added bonus. DEADLY AND FAST was excellent at Albany two starts ago behind Kutsanya. Back in trip and fully fit. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – LET HER BOOGIE WIN RACE 2 BUDGERIGAR should be awfully hard to beat in this country maiden. He resumed at Belmont Park when finishing third behind Spirit Man and Divine Inanna, beating home Lieutenant Dunbar in the process. That race is a good 4-5 lengths stronger than this. Can only imagine he’ll be odds on throughout betting. PICK AND PAY finished second to Squillionaire this track and distance three starts back, didn’t see out a mile two starts back and most recently came back to the 1230/40 and finished second to Ribbing when never giving up the chase. ARAMAT has been freshened after a consistent preparation at Northam over 1300/1400. MON MON ran well on debut and is drawn to get a better run. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – BUDGERIGAR WIN RACE 3 SNEAKY FOX is a very handy 58+/70+ type. Roy Rogers stable is flying and this looks a great chance to increase the strike-rate. Sneaky Fox finished second to Dark Assault in a 70+ at Mt Barker two starts ago and then was a solid second behind Trevello in this grade last start. Versatile and can sit on speed or off-speed. Looks a great race for him on paper. MR CAUSEWAY comes through the same race behind Trevello and finished a further 4L behind Sneaky Fox. His win in the Regional Championship Final at Ascot (when beating Sneaky Fox and Kohli home) isn’t easily forgotten. HIGHFRIAR is rarely far from the action. QUINTUS can go well fresh. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – SNEAKY FOX WIN RACE 4 DARK ASSAULT only finished 2L off The Velvet Queen in a 72+ at Ascot back in December. Drops a lot of weight coming back into 70+ company. Drawn to get the right run and looks one of the main players. TREVELLO demolished them last start. If he runs out a strong 1500m he’s the testing material. CLASSIC ROGUE hasn’t had a lot of luck in the metro area to start his preparation. Improver back to his home track. COUSIN IVAN gets out to a suitable trip for the first time in the preparation after chasing in a pair of 1100 and 1200m events behind speedy mare Strathmore Rose. Don’t discount. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – DARK ASSAULT WIN RACE 5 ELITE FIGHTER is an honest and consistent campaigner. Won a 1500m C2 five starts back, a 1600m 58+ four starts back and then went to town and has been there abouts since. Seems to run for Alan Kennedy and is drawn a gate to get the run he needs close handy to the speed. NATRUAL SPICE looks the likely leader and has been given a month’s let-up after being run down over the staying at Barker. Takes running down. ARTIE’S COMET almost held off up and coming staying mare Cartanera. He’s back in form and another winning chance. ROCK OF KAHA was racing well in C3 company at Northam late in 2022. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – ELITE FIGHTER WIN RACE 6 CHERRY CAN RUN made ground at Pinjarra on the Scarpside last start on a day where it was nearly impossible to get home. Drops from a C3 back into a C1 and drops 1kg after the claim for Cassey Martinan. As long as she jumps and stays with them early this looks a great opportunity and Graeme Ballantyne has a handy strike-rate when travelling his horses to Albany. GOD’S MOMENT won a maiden at 1100m and then stepped to a mile when running really well behind Chad’s Me Dad. Takes running down back to the sprint trip. SPEEDY PYE continues to race well but just lacks a killer blow. LUVACHAT is a frustrating animal. Has ability but does too much wrong. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – CHERRY CAN RUN WIN RACE 7 FUEL THE FRIAR went into her last start C2 mile as a $1.80 favourite and she got shuffled back into an awkward spot in running. By the time she got clear Snippagem had put a margin on her and managed to scramble in and hold her off. They meet again a month later and there’s a 3kg swing in favour of Fuel The Friar. Just needs clear air from the inside alley. ROCKY PATH looks well placed back into a c58+ Fillies & Mares race. Her pattern is always against her but if they can make ground she’s got a big turn of acceleration. SNIPPAGEM rolls to the top and stays out of trouble. PAIGEY’S TURN can sustain a run and goes well on the back-up. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – FUEL THE FRIAR WIN RACE 8 BENTLEY BEAU almost got over the top of Chad’s Me Dad last start in a C2 1600. That has to be the form reference and now fourth up he should be peaking. Has been a horse over the years who can find a way to get beaten (1 from 18 with 7 second placings) but he gives Andrew Castle a great opportunity to return to the saddle a winner. Peter Western’s team is going great guns. DOUBLE THUMBS UP and SQUILLIONAIRE both jump from 1200m to 1500m. They’re both in form and they’re both racing capable of winning this, if they run out the trip. REBEL MAN is first emergency. His fresh run at 1200 was brilliant. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – (11) Suggested Bet – BENTLEY BEAU WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,4,5,7 2,5 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,10 1,4,5 Market Market
