CANNINGTON

Race 3 No. 3 His Stop It

Got out of his ground last week and took an age to get into it. Late races don’t suit him and an earlier one this week means he gets another chance as he can stay and some of these can not. Needs to get into it earlier.

Race 4 No. 6 Granite Song and No. 4 Glorious Gunn

The 6 has come up at an astonishing price here. Should be a lot shorter than what he currently is. He only has to gain clear running to the first turn and he becomes a huge show. Class customer who keeps on producing at the highest level around here. The 4 will go fast and be hard to catch this week. Can break 30 easily and will prove tough to get past if she finds the arm solo. 

Race 5 No. 5 Sunset Givenchy

Going superbly for Eric and box his only issue here. Getting stronger each week and has a blistering turn of acceleration after box rise where he puts himself in winning positions with a lap to go. If he leads the first time around, good luck running him down. 

Race 6 No. 6 Yahoo Serious and No. 5 Super Charge 

The 6 went well last week and he’s ready to win again. Can handle all boxes and is versatile. Only needs a good first turn to be a player late. The 5 is a silly price here. His last few have been top notch and he’s chasing well presently. Can offset the draw. Both great EW hopes in a very good race. 

Race 8 No. 7 Benidorm

We only need to see the old Benidorm and her box manners to see her put these to the sword. Can explode out of the lids and run time when she is left alone early. Can swish over and put this to bed quickly if she does. 

Race 10 No. 4 Fawn Roller

Short course weapon. Can run time on or off the arm and handles all boxed and conditions. Small field a bonus and has an explosive middle section in his races that he keeps sustaining. Top 2 bird. 

THE MEADOWS

Race 6 No. 8 Indy Honey and No. 2 Kaheem Bale

The 8 will look to go fast out wide here. If she crosses she will prove hard to catch. The 2 was poleaxed last week and forget that. He is the fastest dog in the race and gets a good map here. Can be tardy early but has big middle and last sections. 

Race 9 No. 2 King Of Calypso

Doing his best work off inside draws lately. Disappointing last week but prepared to forgive that and go off the desperately unlucky run the week before. Can descend here and hit the podium. 

Race 10 No. 7 Indy Fido

Will go across the back of the field and make that fast run he has up the back. Races well here and if he gets into this cleanly, will take all sorts of stopping. Can run some big splits when he gets room. Huge show, EW bird and best bet. 

WENTWORTH PARK

Race 2 No. 4 Manipulate

She is very strong and while she can stay, she can sprint just as well. Will look for the fence early and will get it with the speed inside her clearing her early. She will start a long run home up the back and be hard to hold out. 

Race 7 No. 5 Midnight Return 

Monster effort last week. Going to be a nice middle distance type and bred to be anything. Was slow out and got into traffic but stormed when clear and gets a better map this week. Will take a mountain of stopping here. 

Race 10 No. 2 Jabeni

Looks a standout here in this Masters race. Small field and draw means only trouble stops him winning. Has time on these and will look to finish the card on a high note. 

 

Tonight, we have the National Distance and National Sprint grand finals here at Wentworth Park. Races 6 and 8 on the program. Let’s take a look at both races and each runners chances in the big events. 

Race 6 – The National Distance Final (720m)

No. 1 Tsar Bell (WA)

Strong star from the West who will be giving these a start but will hit the line as well as anything. Can be awkward and first time at WP a worry but he will go through the gears with a lap to go and can hit the placings at odds.

No. 2 Know Keeper (NZ)

New Zealand champ who comes into this a 34 time winner and off a barnstorming win in their final at Christchurch. Different class over here but he can stay and comes from anywhere in a field. Brings X factor to the race and could sneak a place at odds. 

No. 3 Gypsy Wyong (VIC)

Tremendous campaigner who hasn’t had the ideal preparation into this and it’s not what you want for a final of this caliber. Comes into this off a Wild Card entry and will need something special to win. She can at her best but too many question marks over her at the moment.

No. 4 Super Estrella (NSW)

The local glamour girl of the staying ranks and has her paws firmly on the shoulders of this trophy. Only bad luck will stop her putting on a clinic here. Went brilliant early splits and a near record 41.46 to win her state final. She will turn up all guns ablaze here from the time the lids spring open and will pull the trigger right after to deliver NSW a National final. Nothing should stop her and while it’s greyhound racing, she looks the best bet in a big race for some time. 

No. 5 Highland Wonder (TAS)

Apple Isle entrant who has a great win and place strike rate but will be outclassed here. A lack of opportunities in his home state means he is under prepared for a race if this magnitude but he will be trying his very best and if nothing else, he does look like he can stay and keeps coming. Will be a long way off them one would think. Will do his state proud never the less.

No. 6 Days Of Thunder (QLD)

The little girl from the sunshine state. Has one of the biggest run homes for a stayer currently racing. She gets back and can find trouble but can unleash a devastating split from the 500m mark to run over dogs at a rate of knots. Will give this fav an impossible start but she can hit the podium behind her and nothing will smash the line harder. Look for the little white flash to charge into this for the exctoics. 

No. 7 Moraine Suzie (VIC)

A shame this wasn’t three months later as this Victorian is going to be one very good stayer. Outstanding in her heat beating the more seasoned distance dogs and is a minor threat to the fav if any. Has early speed and is strong and can come from any spot in the field. Will look to get into this early but will need the fav to make an error to win. Promising and will give a sight.

No. 8 Fantastic Radley (SA)

Premier stayer from South Australia and the smokie to get into the placings. Wins as he likes at home and has experience here and actually has a good record at this track and trip. Well boxed and while he needs to find a bit on the clock, he will push up out wide and try to get into this early. Not without a place chance and will give SA a much needed boost and sight in this final and do them proud.

Race 8 – The National Sprint Championship (520m)

No. 1 Simply Limelight (NSW)

Been a revelation lately and boxed to give this an almighty shake. Won a strange state final in what was a mix up affair and he seemed responsible for some of it. Not entirely sure about dogs on his outside and he doesn’t seem to like being crowded and that could happen here. No doubting his ability once he’s clear though and will look the winner if he uses his box. Big show. 

No. 2 Dusty Bourbski (VIC)

Outstanding sprinter from Victoria who lead throughout in his state final. Runs fast time and strong. He can step right at box rise but hasn’t shown a tendency to do that on other tracks or when dogs come out with him on his outside. Can lead or come from back and will be looking for first turn luck to figure here. Can’t imagine he can give these start. Place chance only for mine. 

No. 3 Good Odds Cash (NSW)

Genuine local star who will spear out and put herself right into this from the get go. Tremendous dog who can run serious splits and overalls and will look to go hard for the lead here. Even settling close she can still get home and has a 29.53 here which will be winning this. Great box stats and will give a wonderful sight if she nails the start as usual. 

No. 4 Throttle (WA)

The young megastar from the West. He can run anything on the clock and while his trial may look disappointing last week, it was his first go around here and the first split was woeful which he can take panels off. No doubting that he can run over any of these and had this been 6 months later, he would be unstoppable. Future Group 1 winner who has a set of gears rarely seen in dogs. Box draw not too bad and needs to follow the 3 up early and he’s shown he’s good in a field before. Can shock the life out of these and will be there at the end with any luck at all. 

No. 5 Fly For Trix (SA)

Probably out of his depth here but he is a superb performer from South Australia who knows how to win. Has run fast turn back home on a few tracks and a 32 time winner. Will need luck off the draw but there is a world where if he happened to find the arm, they would be hard pressed catching him. Not entirely hopeless here but has the job ahead. 

No. 6 Magical Cyndie (QLD) – Scr

No. 7 Opawa Superstar (NZ) – Scr

No. 8 Mcinerney (TAS)

The Apple Isle rep and unlike his staying counterpart, this bloke can win!! Has form at The Meadows and Sandown and not just any form, he wins and wins in fast time. Blistering turn of foot off the mat, well boxed and can give these the race of their life. Look for him to muster hard down the outside to the first turn and if he crosses and leads, this is over. Will give his backers a sight at double figures here. 29.8 Meadows and 29.2 Sandown means Tasmania have a live chance to win the National Sprint!!

No. 9 Bandit Ned (NSW)

Goes into Box 6 and now a real hope. Can get back and wide but has a big set of sections and launches late in his races. Will look to stay out of the early battle and get to the middle of the track. He can go around any trouble and will just keep coming. Big EW hope here and can at least finish on the podium. Goes well here and has won 11 times around this circuit. Don’t dismiss him. 

No. 10 Ritza Donna (NSW)

Goes into Box 7 and while she is racing well, the draw makes her job that much harder now. Still breaking 30 but needs a lot to go her way here and a first turn scrimmage would be her only chance to win. Her local knowledge will carry her a long way though so she shouldn’t be left out of exotic plays. Can win but needs errors from the others.
