Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 4, 2022March 4, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 5 NO.1 OVERPASS OVERPASS is the class runner in the Inglis Sprint (1200m) and looks the best bet of the day. The Bjorn Baker trained colt is in peak form at present having defeated FORBIDDEN LOVE and ANAMOE in the Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on January 29. He then ran a brave second to the rapidly improving sprinter LOST AND RUNNING in the Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 12. He drops back to his own age group in this race and has had one run down the Flemington straight for a luckless 6th behind HOME AFFAIRS in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) last October. They are irresistible formlines for this class of race and the son of Vancouver is poised to record his fifth career victory. RACE 6 NO.10 INSPIRATIONAL GIRL The Blamey Stakes (1600m) promises to be great contest and a forerunner to the All Star Mile over the same track and distance on March 19. Whilst all eyes will be on one of the nation’s best horses ZAAKI, this race sets up beautifully for the Peters Investments owned INSPIRATIONAL GIRL to get back to winning form. After a long spell, the six year old only had one run last spring for an eye-catching 5th behind BEHEMOTH in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) last August. At her first run in this preparation, she again worked to the line stylishly in a leader dominated race finishing 6th behind TOFANE in the C.F.Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 12. She ran home clearly the best final sectionals of the race which sets her up perfectly for the extra distance on the spacious Flemington track and, significantly, drops 4kg on her last run. Elite rider Damian Lane maintains the association, she wears blinkers first time and looks one of the better bets of the day. RACE 7 NO.4 FORGOT YOU The Australian Guineas (1600m) has brought together a tremendous field full of interest with some highly promising gallopers clashing at a classic distance. The best value in the race is FORGOT YOU, who looks poised to produce a big second-up run. The son of Savabeel was a feature winner at this distance last spring securing the Stutt Stakes at The Valley last September. It was hard to miss his eye-catching first-up effort finishing strongly for 6th behind PINSTRIPED in the C.S.Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on February 19. He will relish the extra distance, he’s drawn to race closer to the speed than previous runs and his rider Mark Zahra is in sterling form with two group one wins already this carnival. It promises to be a great race, however FORGOT YOU is a reliable horse that will perform well again and appears over the odds. Market Market
