Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on February 4, 2022February 4, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 2 NO.11 WORTHILY WORTHILY is an import from the powerful Maher/ Eustace stable that ran on stylishly at his Australian debut and looks a strong winning chance when he contests the Robert Hunter BM70 Handicap (1800m). The five year old wasn’t suited by a wide draw but still worked to the line stylishly when finishing 8th behind NICCOLI VITO over 1400 metres at Flemington on January 15. He will be improved by that outing and will relish a rise in distance from a good draw. This looks a fairly moderate race with horses that have hit their optimum level whereas WORTHILY is only starting his Australian career which should see him race in better company and makes him a good bet in this race. RACE 5 NO.2 GENERATION Another Maher/ Eustace trained runner at this meeting is GENERATION who looks the one to beat in the Manfred Stakes (1200m). After two solid runs, the son of Snitzel rounded off his spring campaign with a brave win in fast time in the Red Anchor Stakes (1200m). He has trialled up nicely in preparation for his return to racing and this looks a very suitable option. He is shaping like a good lightweight chance for some of the feature sprints so he can be expected to run well in this company and appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 9 NO.2 TUVALU Exciting galloper TUVALU is aiming to extend his career to five wins from 7 starts to date when he runs in the Premier Signs BM 78 Handicap (1600m). The Lindsey Smith trained gelding resumed racing with a comprehensive win in very fast time in the Port Fairy Cup (1400m) at Warrnambool on January 20. His only two defeats have been by subsequent Group One and Golden Eagle winner I’M THUNDERSTRUCK so he is a genuine talent with his best racing ahead of him. He has a great racing style that sees him up on the pace and out of trouble. He has the burden of 61kg but that shouldn’t stop him in this company and TUVALU and represents the best bet of the day.
