Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on April 20, 2021April 20, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SHEZA CHALMER burst onto the scene last preparation with an impressive maiden victory at Bunbury over talented Cerise and White filly Testing Love before making a mess of C1 opposition a fortnight later. Those two efforts saw her head to a Saturday 3 year old race at Ascot and went round at $2.10 when losing no admirers finishing second to Toscana and beating home First Law in the process. Cutaway in play, short sharp sprint filly, looks suited. FIRST LAW has excellent race form for a 3yo 0MWLY and his first-up performance last preparation to Kissonallforcheeks rated through the roof. CRITICAL ALTITUDE has done nothing wrong and leads for a long way. SON SON will be doing his best late. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – SHEZA CHALMER WIN RACE 2 WRITTEN EXCEED got loose on debut and was a late scratching. Has since trialled up again and definitely looks the part in the flesh. Drawn ideally, Brad Rawiller riding very well and in an open and even 2 year old race he gets the nod. WISE WORDS ran into Heavenly Waters, Asrape and Flying Missile in the Crystal Slipper when finishing right alongside subsequent Supremacy Stakes winner and Karrakatta Plate runner-up Liwa. No shades in the trial and went well. ELECTRIC ROSE was a forgive run last weekend. Wrong place, wrong time – no luck. SILVER BUGG has done nothing wrong in two starts to date. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – WRITTEN EXCEED EACHWAY RACE 3 PICCOLA SIGNORA really caught the eye last start. Big Screen was rolling along out in front (overall time 3L faster than maiden average) and she was out the back chasing throughout. Ran the fastest last 1000, 800, 600, 400 & 200 of the race and with Laqdar Ramoly’s claim gets 2kg weight relief. With the cutaway style of racing, she should get her chance late. POWERFUL FORCE has been beaten under $4 at 6 of his 7 starts to date. Again goes round as favourite and while this looks his race to lose on paper you’d be brave stepping into one who knows how to get rolled. RENEGADE RULER has been improving with every outing. GEE FORCE will be out to show the first-up run wasn’t a fluke. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – PICCOLA SIGNORA EACHWAY RACE 4 ISLAND CHARM looks well placed by Roy Rogers back into a C3. Returning fresh this preparation beat Iseered Iseered and Gemma’s Son at 1000m in 3 year old grade before running second in the 3yo Pinjarra Magic Millions. Since then has been competitive in 62+ and 58+ handicap races. Drop in grade, blinker (singular) on and Brad Rawiller on. Should be right in the finish. NURHACI won well first-up at 1000m. Keshaw Dhurun takes off 3kg and the way Nurhaci races he may end up rolling in this race. Hard to knock the form with Just a Pinch winning last week. SUNNYSILK resumes first-up no trial and David Harrison has a great strike-rate with those horses. NOBLE REFLECTION next best. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – ISLAND CHARM WIN RACE 5 TREAT YO SELF sat right over the speed first-up at 1705 and went awfully close to saluting. Query on the form from a times perspective with the first 1100m run 18L slower than C3 average but definitely buoyed with the effort of Chief Archer on Saturday. RECITING drops out of the Group 3 Oaks and her previous win in maiden company was electric. Always promised to win a few like that. GIFTED WARRIOR ran well at his first start for Dion Luciani. Drawn to get the run of the race. REVEUSE continues to run minor placings regardless of what grade he is placed into. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – TREAT YO SELF WIN RACE 6 TRADEM’IN ran well at his return when finishing off hard late to snatch third. Looks a progressive type and strikes a very even C1 field. Should only be improved for the outing and looks to have a future. Lightly raced and no convictions. ROCK THIS COUNTRY has put in back to back blackbook efforts. Drawn to settle closer and if the cutaway is hot then he’ll look the winner. SCORPION STORMZ won well last start and has gone from strength to strength this preparation. BLACK LIGHTNING hasn’t been sighted for almost 12 months but has trialled up well. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – TRADEM’IN WIN RACE 7 GIANCANA trialled up particularly well and was thrown straight into a Saturday 3 year old event when finishing second last but behind talented types including Iseered Iseered, Mercanto, Strathmore Rose, Island Charm and Sassy Trader. Drops from a 58+ into a 50+, blinkers are reinstated after being removed for the first-up assignment and she is drawn to stalk the speed from the ideal draw. Looks the one. CAPTAIN BURGLAR hasn’t seen a race of this nature since breaking his maiden at Belmont Park beating Indigo Blue. Disappointed first-up but in a far stronger race than this. MICHELLE MA BELLE did it tough last start. Drops back in grade and gains W.Pike. PARIS GIRL can shoot up the cutaway late. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – GIANCANA WIN RACE 8 MERCANTO comes from what we’re hoping is a hot 3 year old form reference with Island Charm and Giancana to give an insight into the strength of the form earlier in the program. Outside of the winner Iseered Iseered Mercanto was the run of the race and stamped himself as a promising and progressive type. Scratched from Saturday to save for this lowly C1 and with an uninterrupted run at them should be saluting. BEAU ZOOM is proving to be a bit hit and miss. Last time he was in this grade he was beaten in the shadows at odds on. PRIZE PURSUIT will need some luck from the draw but trialled up nicely. GINGER KNIGHT is honest and consistent. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MERCANTO WIN RACE 9 WORTH A RISK has been thriving off racing fresh with the Pearce Brothers seemingly working the mare out. Always looks a query on paper the 50 odd days between runs but she is a 2x winner off this spacing and strikes a winnable race from an ideal draw. There is speed drawn everywhere in this and Joey Azzopardi has options. Nicely placed and a proven weight carrier. LORD LONSDALE had no luck first-up and is no guarantee of getting any here. William Pike riding should offset the draw. HEART OF COEUR wasn’t as bad as it reads last start and the prior effort was strong when tramping deep. CELTIC DIVA is a staying mare fresh who is drawn to sit three back the fence and shoot up the inside.
