Deane Lester’s Moonee Valley Best Bets Posted on August 24, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 1 NO.5 ICONOCLASM ICONOCLASM is an exciting talent from the Darren Weir stable that resumes from a short break when he runs in the Benchmark 90 Handicap (1200m) and appeals as a strong winning chance. The four year old enjoyed a stellar first preparation winning five of his eight starts including three dynamic wins at Flemington during April- May. Whilst this is slightly short of his best distance, the son of Toorak Toff is a very strong horse that might prove too tough for this field. He is drawn for a great run and looks a big chance of recording his sixth career win. RACE 3 NO.5 MULTAJA MULTAJA is shaping as one of the best three year old fillies in Melbourne and can continue on his winning way when she tackles the 3YO Fillies Plate (1200m). The daughter of Medaglia D’Oro has been seen on two occasions for two brilliant wins in fast time, firstly at Werribee on April 7 before a stunning win from back in the field over 1000 metres at Moonee Valley on August 4. She will be fitter for that run, appreciate stepping up in distance and should race closer to the lead from a middle barrier draw. Elite rider Dwayne Dunn retains the mount and MULTAJA should win this race as she progresses onto better races over the spring carnival. RACE 7 NO.5 BRUTAL Arguably the most exciting horse to be racing at the Moonee Valley meeting is BRUTAL when he contests the Mitchell McKenzie Stakes (1200m). The son of O’Reilly could not have been more impressive winning on debut in slick time over 1200 metres at Caulfield on July 14. He has been freshened since that win and trialled like a star over 800 metres at Flemington on August 17. He possesses good tactical speed and strength which should enable him to dominate this race from the front and maintain his unbeaten record. Whilst this is a very strong race, BRUTAL should win again and represents the standout bet of the day. Market Market
