Greg’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on December 23, 2016December 27, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 This is a very tricky two-year-old race. Seven of the twelve are on debut and plenty have trialled well. I’ll stick with the raced brigade and go for ROYAL STRATA who improved out of sight with the shades going on last start. From gate 2 she can lead or box seat and go very close. ART SERIES was terrific in the same race on debut where she parked wide throughout and kept coming. She again has a wide draw to contend with but has claims. STREET FURY impressed in her 400m trial. VERY ANGRY GAL hails from a strong stable and won her 950m trial well. Numbers – 4 – 5 – 10 -12 Suggested Bet – ROYAL STRATA AND ART SERIES RACE 2 VENGABUS looks suited with the drop back to a mile. He has raced well over unsuitable trips at his last two starts. He finds the front and can give some cheek. There is little between DJANGO and ASTRONOMITE and both look to have strong claims. YOUNG LIONEL is another dropping in class and distance. Numbers – 2 – 4 – 7 -1 Suggested Bet – VENGABUS WIN RACE 3 LUKE’S GOLD looks a terrific chance from gate 1. At his first attempt at 1400m he came wide at Pinjarra and attacked the line. He should get a much more economical run and with clear room go very close. RED PUBLISHER has been caught wide at his last two starts. From gate 2 he gets his chance. TRAVELLIN’ got the favours at Pinjarra but has claims again. UPTOWN FUNK hasn’t had the best of luck at her last two starts. Numbers – 8 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – LUKE’S GOLD WIN RACE 4 PARADINI turned it on at Pinjarra when breaking her maiden tag. She gets a soft trip from a good draw and should be attacking the line. She looks a very good bet at the prices on offer. DRAGON COMMANDER got run down by a smart one last start. He leads and is the one to catch. REEF KEEPER is a maiden on promise. Come back jockey Dan Staeck takes the ride. PRECIOUS MEMORIES next best. Numbers – 11 – 4 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet – PARADINI WIN SuperPick - Race 4 No. 11 PARADINI - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 5 DAINTY TESS looks very well placed in this 3YO sprint. She is suited with the drop in trip and also has drawn the gate where she can tag the speed. HOBOKEN won well last start at big odds. He leads or can take the camp. ATACAMA SKY has been given a freshen-up after producing a sub par effort at his most recent start. SLIK SAM next best. Numbers – 1 – 3 -2 – 4 Suggested Bet – DAINTY TESS WIN RACE 6 Suspect there is very little between a host of these and whoever gets luck in running will likely get the money. TORTE CAPRESE has been in super form this campaign. She was just shaded second up and then made amends courtesy of a top ride by Ryan Hill. From gate 4 she can settle much closer and get her chance for her first Saturday win. FIRST AFFAIR gunned down Torte Caprese at Northam then ran a huge race in defeat when over racing badly in front. The blinkers go off in attempt to get her to settle. HAY MAGIC is always a chance at this level. MACAVITY was scratched from Wednesday to be saved for this. Numbers – 11 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – TORTE CAPRESE AND FIRST AFFAIR RACE 7 DUBAI ESCAPADE ran well in the Kingston Town and backed that up with a solid effort in last week’s Van Heemst. Back to handicap conditions suit and Lucy Warwick can return with a winner. STAR EXHIBIT was very game behind his stable mate Kia Ora Koutou in the JRA Trophy. He has strong claims. KIROV BOY looks just about ready to give a race like this a big shake. DARK ALERT can improve on his last start effort where he lost his spot midrace and never figured. Numbers – 2 – 5 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – DUBAI ESCAPADE WIN RACE 8 Open race to finish the program. DISCO METAL has returned in super form this campaign including a brilliant last to first win at her last start. Harvey takes over from the suspended Pike. KEY TO FAME can find the front and prove hard to run down. MY GREEK BOY flies fresh and has trialled well. ON TREND has caims. Numbers – 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – DISCO METAL AND KEY TO FAME [button class=”bet-now” style=”btn-default btn-lg” type=”link” target=”false” title=”Bet Now” link=”https://www.tabtouch.com.au/racing/2016-12-24/pr” linkrel=””]
