Euro 2016 – England v Iceland Posted on June 27, 2016July 12, 2016 | Posted by Sportsbettingmax.com Alliance, Riviera – 28th June, 3 AM AWST Recent Form Slovakia 0 v England 0 Iceland 2 v Austria 1 Head to head England 1 – Iceland 0 – Draw – 1 Recent match 2004 Summer Tournament– England 6-1 Match Overview England Manager Roy Hodgson is likely to bring back Wayne Rooney, Dele Alli and Harry Kane after resting players in their nil all draw with Slovakia. Iceland could be starting with the same line-up as they did for their win against Austria after Alfred Finnbogason returns from suspension. Only Iceland and Spain used the same starting line-up in all three Group matches. The pressure has been on Hodgson since their below standard performance against Slovakia, coming under fire for resting players when he should be searching for team cohesion. England had 46 more shots than their opponents during the Group Stage (Russia, Wales and Slovakia) but only they came out of the group with a goal difference of +1. They have scored three goals (two against Wales and one versus Russia) and conceded two (one against Russia and Wales). Iceland have been more prolific in front of goal. They scored four goals but also conceding three (one an own goal versus Hungary). They drew 1-1 with Portugal, 1-1 with Hungary and defeated Austria 2-1. For England their three goals have been scored by Sturridge, Vardy and Dier and for Iceland the four goal scorers have been Traustason, Bodvarsson, Sigurdsson and Bjarnason. This is almost the perfect storm for England. Their country ripped apart with the fallout from the Brexit vote, their coach under attack in the press and up against a nation with the population of Leicester. If England do not hit the targets with their much vaunted attack expect the counter from Iceland to come back hard. I predict Iceland to gain the first major upset of the final 16. Player Watch Kolbeinn Sigthorsson has scored 20 goals from 45 international games and is overdue to score at Euro 2016. Jamie Vardy has already scored (against Wales) and is England’s best chance to score against the tough Iceland defence. Match Result Iceland to win 2-1 in extra time. Bet Suggestions Option 1 – Iceland to qualify $4.50* Option 2 – Anytime goal scorer Sigthorsson $4.60* and Jamie Vardy $2.70* Bet Now!
