Wayne’s Preview – Scorchers v Strikers Posted on January 12, 2018June 7, 2018 | Posted by Wayne Clark What a contest this should prove to be. The Scorchers – who never know how to say die and the Strikers – talented and fighting well above expectations. Both will be looking to secure a finals spot with a win here and also put themselves in the box seat to host. The Scorchers nearly pulled-off another remarkable victory on Thursday night, but maybe the loss of so many key players is now starting to have its effect. Bancroft enjoyed the freedom of the T20 cricket and Cartwright finally showed us what he is capable of, but they could not recover from the poor early start. Klinger needs to be back in the runs and maybe gamble with Ashton Agar to bat in the first power play. The Strikers attack has proven very steady with Laughlin (11 wkts) and Khan (11 wkts) being the standouts. The Scorchers need to pressure Stanlake and Neser while the ball is hard, as the Alice Springs pitch may be tough to score on as the innings progress. The top order of the Strikers will miss Travis Head, but Carey (224 runs) and Ingram (182) still give it bite. Weathereald is due to come off, Wells has been consistent when he’s had the opportunity and Lehman may well be promoted up the order providing a bit of an X-factor. Again, the power-play and the ability of Johnson and Paris to strike early could have a huge influence on the outcome. This will literally be a toss of the coin result, but the form of the Strikers bowling attack – especially Khan and Laughlin could sway it the Strikers way.
