The Scout: EPL Season Preview Posted on September 11, 2020September 11, 2020 | Posted by The Scout Competition Winner – Liverpool @ $3.20* The Reds amassed 99 points last season and while this feat may be tough to replicate, they still loom as the team to beat for Season 2020/21. The Reds haven’t lost any players and still boast world class talent all over the pitch. They simply don’t have a weakness. Japanese forward Takumi Minamino will add another dimension to Liverpool’s attack. He had a strong preseason and I expect he’ll see a sharp increase in playing time. Jurgen Klopp is as good as you’ll find at motivating his players. While I’m wary of Manchester City, I can’t see any reason Liverpool don’t continue to dominate the league. Top Half – Southampton @ $2.20* Southampton finished 11th last season and look primed for a leap into the top half of the table and beyond. Southampton (oddly) played better on the road than they did at home. From the 19 games, they won nine and drew four. If they can maintain this form and slightly improve their play at home, they should be in for a highly competitive year. Danny Ings scored a career high 22 goals last season, and shows no sign of slowing down. The addition of Kyle Walker-Peters and the improving play of striker Che Adams should also see the Saints trending upwards this season. Top Goalscorer – Timo Werner @ 10* Chelsea’s newly signed striker scored 28 goals for RB Leipzig last season in the Bundesliga. He is an extremely versatile forward with the ability to play as the lone striker or as part of a duo. Frank Lampard’s system at Chelsea should be a perfect match for Werner with fast ball movement creating plenty of chances for their attackers. Werner is also blessed with blistering pace and can move well both on and off the ball. Liverpool have Mane, Salah and Firmino all competing for goals while Manchester City’s leading man Sergio Aguero will likely find himself rested more often this season. Aubameyang is a worthy favourite but a new role at Arsenal could be a hinderance. *Odds correct as at 10am, 11th September 2020. Market Market
