The Scout: A-League Week 3 Posted on December 3, 2021December 3, 2021 | Posted by The Scout Brisbane Roar vs Adelaide United Brisbane Roar find themselves dead last in the A-League after losing their first two games of the season while Adelaide United sit in 7th position after back-to-back draws. Despite not yet finding a win, the young Adelaide United squad have had a very promising start to the season. Their opening match was an away fixture against Perth Glory and to escape with a 1-1 draw is a great return. United’s second match against defending champions Melbourne City was a fantastic effort. Adelaide was down 2-0 before clawing back and finding two goals in a row to take points off arguably the best team in the league. Back-to-back trips to Melbourne were not fruitful for the Roar as they were comfortably defeated in both matches. The big concern for Brisbane is that they take far too long to get settled and in both matches so far this season they have been behind 2-0 at half time. Adelaide have been unlucky not to find maximum points so far and have played some brilliant soccer which saw them push an elite outfit in Melbourne City. I expect Adelaide United to be far too polished and will take advantage of Brisbane’s slow start. Suggested Bet: Adelaide United Win @ $3.45* Melbourne City vs Western United Melbourne City (2nd) will be disappointed that they did not leave Adelaide with the full three points as they squandered a 2-0 lead. Western United have had a slow start to the season but thanks to a late second half goal they managed a 1-0 win over Perth Glory. It is clear Melbourne City are the team to beat this season as they look to replicate last season’s run of form. City manager Patrick Kisnorbo will not allow his team to repeat last week’s efforts as they return to AAMI Park. What makes City such a good side is their ferocious attack led by Jamie Maclaren, Andy Nabbout and new recruit Matthew Leckie. At the helm is reigning A-League Golden Boot winner Jamie Maclaren who scored a monstrous 25 goals last season. Maclaren scores goals for fun and is looking for his third Golden Boot award in a row and has already opened his goal scoring account last week against Adelaide United. His speed and finishing ability are second to none and I expect him to have plenty of opportunities to strike first for City. Suggested Bet: Jamie Maclaren First Goalscorer @ $3.35* Melbourne Victory vs Perth Glory Melbourne Victory are on top of the A-League after back-to-back wins over Western United and Brisbane Roar. Perth Glory sit in 10th place having not found a win yet this season and come into this match off the back of a very disappointing 1-0 defeat by Western United. Tony Popovic is back, and his Melbourne Victory squad have played fantastic soccer in their first two matches. It starts with the defensive structure for Victory which is working in perfect unison as they have not yet conceded a goal this season. Victory’s 3-0 demolition job of Brisbane Roar was extremely telling as they defended well and made the most of their counter attacks. Victory winger Marco Rojas plays a key part in their counterattack as he made devastating runs against Roar that resulted in two assists. Glory will be without star signing Daniel Sturridge in this match and this will be their downfall as they will need all the firepower they can get to break through the fortress-like defense of Victory. I expect Melbourne Victory to be far too organised down back for Glory as they continue their win streak. Suggested Bet: Melbourne Victory Win @ $2.04* *Odds correct as at 9am, 3rd December 2021.
