Scott Embry’s Wednesday Geraldton Preview Posted on November 28, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ROCKET STORM looks really hard to beat. Jim Taylor travels horses once in a blue moon, in fact, in the last 750 days he has only had six country runners, four in Geraldton (1 winner) and two in Kalgoorlie (1 winner). So whether she stays in the region or returns to Perth remains to be seen but she looks to have lobbed a really good race. Last start was beaten by Crunchy Nut who is now a C1 winner. Form stands out. PIO KERRI wasn’t asked for much at trials and still impressed. Won’t be a maiden long. NO HANDS was a nice return to racing and Troy Turner sticks. SAFE HUSTLE should be a nice Geraldton horse. Numbers: 11 – 8 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – ROCKET STORM WIN RACE 2 ON THE MARK was a really impressive trial at Geraldton and the horse he ran down in that trial (Tycoon Demon) won on debut. He was very raw and very green but Troy Turner taking the ride is a show of confidence and Barry Newnham knows how to get his hands on a good galloper. If he does things half right he should go close on debut. FINE LINE really caught the eye at her first outing for Gordon Spowart. With the right run she’s hard to hold out late. SHE HATES ME was never taken out of neutral at trials. Keep safe on debut. HOLY SPY just continues to find one or two better than him. Numbers: 10 – 12 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet – ON THE MARK WIN RACE 3 CHIX CHATTER has returned in great order. Won a 70+ first-up over 1200m when charging over the top of subsequent winner Westozi. Went to 1400m second-up and awasn’t the same horse but bounced back last start when narrowly defeated by Turbo Power. Will concede them a head start but if they can make ground he’ll be right there in the finish. REACTION won off a 7 day back-up only three starts ago and then has had legitimate excuses at two runs since. Looks a nice race for him on the minimum from barrier 1. ARABIAN RICHES either crosses or parks up outside of Reaction. STARTTHEFRIAR looks to be getting back into a bit of form. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – CHIX CHATTER WIN RACE 4 PATCHWORK is a brilliantly honest and consistent mare. She’ll leave the gates cleanly, she’ll land in her favourite position one out and one back and she’ll travel boldly into the race. She has to turn the tables on Westozi but she gets a 1kg weight pull from their last start encounter and clearly there isn’t much between them. WESTOZI has been a great find for Albie Beckett and showed last start that he’s in for another big preparation. More than capable of making his way right to the top in the region. BOMBAY STYLE doesn’t know how to run a bad race. BE SEATED caught the eye last start. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – PATCHWORK WIN RACE 5 MOMBASA looks really well placed to break a long run of outs. We’re looking at a horse who hasn’t won a race in 757 days and will likely go round under $3 so it’s a very risky betting propsotion but last start he finished off better than anything in a fast run mile behind Uni Queen and now drops from a 58+ back into a C2. This is his best chance in a long while. JUAN WON ONE and JURENA GOLD both come through the same race. With the better barrier and a head start in running there’s a chance for Juan to turn the tables. BAYHARA was a big replay watch. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – MOMBASA WIN RACE 6 BUDGERIGAR looks one of the better bets on the program. Won a 52+ at York in style first-up, ran into a flying Deetea second-up and then was the only horse to make any noticeable ground in a race dominated from out in front by Baalbek last start in a C3 at Ascot. Steps out to 1413m, drawn to get the run of the race and you bank on Luke Campbell to find clear running in the home straight. Great set up. MYSTIC LOVE can be forgiven for one poor performance. Her two runs prior were excellent. UNI QUEEN simply ran them into the ground last start. Has an extra 4kg to carry here. DELAGO DEHERO puts himself in the right spot. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – BUDGERIGAR WIN RACE 7 AGENT JAY should be getting to a point where he’s competitive again. He was once a m78 rater and now he’s a c66 rater. Now clearly he’s not anywhere near his best anymore and probably never will be but the last time he came to Geraldton he finished only 1.5L off Albert in the Ladies Day Sprint and since then he’s dropped another 2 points. No luck in the home straight last week behind a white hot Stormy Tawny. Get a form sighter through Reaction in Race 3. UNDER INFLUENCE continues to be hammered in betting but leaves himself a lot to do. He’s the one to hold out on ability but he finds ways to get himself into awkward spots. SAUVEHARGE is going well this campaign. BERRY BERRY GOOD can go quick. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – AGENT JAY WIN RACE 8 PEPPI GROVE has run some big races since joining Malcolm Mackenzie and since arriving back on the grass at Geraldton. She’s a 23 start C1 with a 3kg claiming apprentice aboard so we’d need nearly double figures to entertain her but watching her last three runs in replay you can easily sell yourself that she’s a live chance in a wide open race. GLASS OFF ran second to a pretty handy one in What A Prince last start. Senior back on and drawn to get the right run. SPIRIT MAN finds a new home and Julia Martin can improve these tried horses. YES MISS JANE is always there abouts. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – PEPPI GROVE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,4,6 2 2,4,5 3,4,7,9,10 Market Market
