Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on June 18, 2024June 18, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HISTORY WON’T CARE has a lot to learn but hopefully last start’s win will teach him a few things. He wanted to lay inwards up the home straight and William Pike had to pull him around heels at right angles to get him into clear running when getting the job done in the final stride. Think that the cutaway option could be perfect for a horse like him early in his career. HAPPY AS LARRY finally broke through last start for a deserving victory. He can either lead or sit leader’s back. ONE TARGET beat him home when they last met and meets him only half a kilo worse. KING’S SALUTE steps back to 1400 which should suit. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – HISTORY WON’T CARE WIN RACE 2 BLOW BACK will roll forward from his wide gate and ensure that this is run at a genuine tempo. He looks a real one paced staying type and as he gets fitter and fitter deeper into his preparation he should find the right race eventually. Doubt that many will look to pressure him in the early and middle stages and that should allow CJP to control from the front. TROOPER PHOENIX went very close last start and gives the impression he’ll be suited over further. COVENTRY REEF has attacked the line at almost every start in his career but seems to find one or two better than him each time. INFURIATED is 5 weeks between runs and 1400 to 1700. Big ask. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – BLOW BACK WIN RACE 3 ZIPPY ZANY has been excellent in both runs this campaign and looks to have found her most winnable assignment yet. First-up she chased hard behind impressive debut winner Storyville and second-up she sat three deep the trip without cover and fought on bravely behind Repossession and Hez Got The Safe. Race experience and a barrier to her advantage makes her hard to beat. RALLY THE TROOPS caught the eye at trials and the booking of William Pike will always garner attention. CAPORETTO ran into West Star on debut. Forget the beaten margin – that’s the best form reference in the race. SATURDAY SESH was handy enough on debut. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – ZIPPY ZANY WIN RACE 4 SUNLIT FRESCO dropped into a maiden for the first time her career and was heavily supported late in betting when duly saluting. Turned into a two horse war up the home straight between herself and Processio (likely odds on Thursday at Pinjarra) and they kicked an astounding 6L clear of third. Considering her runs in 3 year old 0MWLY and C1 company beforehand think she’ll safely take the step up, even with an additional 3.5kg. PLATINUM CLASS was held up the entire on Saturday and backs up off 4 days with a senior rider on and a drop in grade. AMARLIE MISS looked to spin the wheels on a Soft6 first-up. GARDEN QUARTZ trialled really well for the new stable. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – SUNLIT FRESCO WIN RACE 5 MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE has always promised to put on a galloping exhibition like he displayed at Bunbury last start when breaking his maiden by 5.4L in a sizzling time. Very wary that it was a leader’s paradise that day, however, it’s offset by the fact that the second and third horses (Petrouchka and Classic Ruler) have been plunged to victory at their next outings. Jump, run. ODIN OMEN was well supported first-up and kept coming after covering plenty of ground. KING’S SICARIO trialled without blinkers and if he reproduces his fresh run of last campaign he’d be a major player. UNCLE GERARD has raced in higher grade at 7 of his last 9 but is a hard horse to catch. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE WIN RACE 6 ANTIQUE QUEEN should get the ideal run three back the fence (Pike Heaven) in a race where they’ll roll along behind Yes of Course and Beau Talk. Went from a maiden handicap at York to a 50+ at Bunbury where Arnray simply ran them into the ground. She was the only horse to loom at any stage and now dropping 2kg off she looks hard to hold out late. Could emerge as a Belmont Oaks type over the next few weeks. FLASH DUCATI comes through that same race and now has a senior rider back aboard. KISSES FROM KELLY has had an interrupted preparation but ran well last week. GLITZ IT looks a staying type in the making. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – ANTIQUE QUEEN WIN RACE 7 MARINSKY BALLET, DASH OF BRANDY, HIS EMINENCE and GOD’S GARDEN all come through the same race at Pinjarra behind Beermullah. They all drop in grade from a C5 into a C3 and were all good runs (apart from His Eminence who can be forgiven – didn’t look to handle the conditions). GOD’S GARDEN looked to be just as luckless as MARINSKY BALLET and once they got clear they both attacked the line strongly. These staying races can be raffles but at least Lucy Fiore rides them as well as anyone. MARINSKY BALLET was really popular in betting in that race. Loses Pike but draws to get every favour. DASH OF BRANDY is knocking on the door and Graeme Ballantyne is flying. HIS EMINENCE next. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – GOD’S GARDEN EACHWAY RACE 8 WANGO AWARD got a mile out of her ground in the Best Mood / Generosity race first-up but still clocked the second fastest L600 without any real vigour in the ride. She’s a previous winner off 28 days and likely settles in a similar position to stablemate Harbin yet will go round double the price. Handy mare on her day. HARBIN was a great WA debut and attacked the line like 1400 would suit. Big Pike tax though in a capacity line-up. SUCCESS PLAY could jump from barrier 5 after the withdrawal of the emergencies and won first-up which he had never been able to do in the past. In for a good prep. LITTLE SILVER leads for a long way over 1400. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – WANGO AWARD EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3 3,4,9 3,4,5,6,8 1,2,3,4,13 Market Market
