Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on October 24, 2023October 24, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 KESHI BOOM, MASAMUNE, SKYTALKER and THE BOSS LADY are all Saturday types and RED SQAURE, COCKTAIL PARTY and PHENCE SITTER are not far behind them in that conversation. This is the best Wednesday race of the last 12 months and will be a cracking form reference going forward. KESHI BOOM will sit back and let the race unfold before working through her gears. She has to lump 59kg but she’s got a big engine and is looking to keep her undefeated tag in place. MASAMUNE finished on the heels of Zipaway at Belmont and that form reads up super now. He’s finally drawn a lid. SKYTALKER has got tongues wagging at trials and was huge on debut at 100-1. THE BOSS LADY follows the fence and measures up. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – KESHI BOOM WIN RACE 2 RELIABLE QUEEN looked to have the race absolutely wrapped up at York but on face value just didn’t see out the 1920m because she folded up badly in the last 100m under pressure. Comes back to 1800m and this is another thin race which is no deeper than the maiden handicap she was beaten in at York. Gets another go. NORTHEAST EAGLE is going particularly well for new trainer Tiarnna Robertson. Split Field of Battle and subsequent winner Idyllic Ruler last start. Start 16 but racing well. DARK LOOKS is continually attacking the line and gets her chance here. ICEBERGS is going along alright. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet – RELIABLE QUEEN WIN RACE 3 PROTÉGÉ made an impression on debut when winning by 4L and running sizzling time. He went straight from that maiden into a 60+ Graduation and was backed as if unbeatable into $1.65. He was poor and immediately spelled. Has had throat surgery since then and has had two preparations to bring him back to the races. Looked good in his recent trial win at Belmont and this is a nice starting spot for him. LEADING TADDY couldn’t go with Keshi Boom when the sprint went on at Northam but he wasn’t left too far behind. LIFE OF BRIAN is lightly raced and wasn’t asked for much at trials. VENTURO makes his debut in a C1. Interesting placement. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – PROTÉGÉ WIN RACE 4 WRITTEN MELODY is undefeated and has a fairly big expectation on her shoulders for this 3 year old preparation. She could not have trialled any more impressively over the 950m at Lark Hill and she’ll command the attention of many punters. This is lengths better than your average C1 fillies & mares race. Wary that she’ll be short and that this race has depth. AYUMI won a 3 year old 0MWLY and beat home Masamune in the process. This is a class drop for her and an excellent piece of placement by Trevor Andrews. Legitimate danger. PLAYING GAMES and MISS ROCKJOY are both sharp on speed fillies. Another ripper race. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – WRITTEN MELODY WIN RACE 5 MILITARY POWER has finished in the first two at 8 of his 10 career outings. Great use of the 3kg claim for Brayden Gaerth and he’s the kind of horse that drawn out is probably better than drawing in. Still very raw, but undeniably talented. Think if he can get across to park outside of Apache Blue he’ll loom the winner on straightening. APACHE BLUE is no slouch and Mollie Clark has him flying. He absorbed plenty of pressure last start and was simply too gritty. DANUBE RIVER will be hitting the line hard. EEVALINA can find a back to follow. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – MILITARY POWER WIN RACE 6 BONNIE LAD returned in excellent order behind talented front runner Capricorn Man in a 58+. Drops back into a C3 and comes back to 1000m. He looks like he’ll stalk a really spirited speed battle (The Great Hoya, Bayezid, City Angel, Lucrative Lucy, Elementary Holmes and Mir all capable of going quick). Provided he steps cleanly and doesn’t get shuffled too far back it looks a nice race for him on paper. BIN SHALAA comes out of Kalgoorlie and looks well placed with 55.5kg on her back. Capable on her day. THE GREAT HOYA has returned a new horse for Jade Tangaroa. DEETA has handy 3 year old form to her name from last season. Numbers: 4 – 12 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BONNIE LAD WIN RACE 7 PARIS CALLING resumed over 1200m in a 60+ Graduation when working forward to the breeze and was only beaten 3.7L by sharp filly Augment. Drops back into a midweek C3 and steps out to a more suitable 1400m. Shouldn’t have to work anywhere near as hard here from a favourable draw and showed last preparation she’s a nice filly herself. WANGO AWARD has been very costly to punters since arriving in WA. Blinkers on, 2kg off – like both of those moves. LINDEN’S GOLD was unwanted in betting last start but made the market look silly. ODIN OMEN ran around like a drunk at Northam last start and threw it away. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – PARIS CALLING WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3 1,5,6,8,11 4,5,6,12 1,6,7,11 Market Market
